Question Effect of anti-androgens on hair

I have been prescribed cyproterone to stop hair growth. I would like to know whether this means that if I wax, the hair will not come back once drug takes effect. I have been told it has no effect on existing hair...but does this mean no effect on the hair or the follicles themselves.

In other words...once the follicles have changed from producing normal hairs to produce these thicker hairs can they change back (with drug) to produce normal ones?

(A bit confusing I know)

hey there

i take an anti-androgen for hair growth too. i do not take cyproterone, i take spironolactone. they are both antiandrogens, and are similar from what i read

in my experience, it took 5-6 months for the drug to really take effect. so you have to be patient. but, once those months went by, i noticed that my hairs were much thinner and lighter, and grew much slower. i do not seem to be growing any new hairs, and by that i mean that my "peach fuzz" hairs that all women have naturally are no longer converting into a thick coarse hair. i have been doing electrolysis during the whole time i have been taking medication, so i have had more rapid results, since electrolysis permanently removes hair.

generally, when a normal soft barely visible hair changes into a thicker darker and longer hair, it does not switch back completely. it may eventually just never grow back at all, but usually it will continue to grow, only it will be finer and lighter.

i would suggest getting electrolysis or laser hair removal while taking antiandrogens, so you will have more rapid results

hope this helps!

Can I ask? I took cyproterone acetate in my contraceptive pill (Diane/Dianette). Is this the same thing as cyproterone? Does it cause birth defects like spiro? I had to come off Diane cos of the migraines I was getting due to the high estrogen levels and am interested in trying another anti androgen. Even though my BF and I aren't ttc yet, I would hate to have an accident and have to get an abortion cos of the risk of it being a male foetus.

Sort of off topic - sorry!

If cyproterone is the same thing as cyproterone acetate, I took it for 3 years in the pill as I said. It didn't eliminate the facial hair I already had, but it DEFINATELY stoped more growing and slowed down the growth of the hair I had. I can only see how good it was now that I'm not taking anything for the hair!

Hope that helps!
