Default Effects of Flutamide on sex drive?

I am considering taking Flutamide next year for my ongoing hair growth/loss problems but am concerned about the possible side effects.

I have been taking Spironolactone for nine months now and it has caused serious problems with sexual dysfunction. I have been on my current dose (100mg) for several months and the problem is only getting worse with time. And the Spiro hasn't really had any effect on my symptoms.

I cannot take birth control pills for the same reason.

Since Flutamide is a strong anti-androgen I assume that it can also cause negative sexual side effects. I would appreciate hearing from any current or previous users of Flutamide about their experiences with this.

Thanks!

I have been on Flutamide for about four months. It dried me up at first, but I am back in action now. I love this stuff for skin. No success in terms of body hair though. Finasteride rocks for scalp hair loss.

For me, the sides included dry skin and I felt a little sick the first month or so. It wears off. I do recommend doing some serious moisterizing though. It can give you bad wrinkles if you don't. I caught it in time. You can not drink. That was the worst thing for me. Not that I am an alchie, but I am a social drinker.

One of the things about undertaking any drug regime is that the side-effects can affect some of our more enjoyable characteristics. Most women who have high testosterone enjoy the high "male-type" sex drive even if they don't like the "male-type" facial and body hair. For myself I'd rather keep the sex drive, cover up the body hair and shave the facial hair. Other women are prepared to sacrifice the sex drive in order to reduce the facial and body hair. It all depends on what you value more.

I think that doing your own reserach is a good idea. I use Pubmed because that is the literature that doctors and nurrses use if they choose to stay informed and updated on the latest research. Anyway, all of the medication that I am currently on has been brought to my doctors attention by myself. It sucks but you kind of have to become your own expert. Thank god for the internet. Just make sure that you use literature that is utilized in the medical field to inform your decisions. Good luck and you may need to deal with many annoying hours of reading. If the articles are confusing, I would print off all that pertain to a particular treatment or subject and present that to your doctor to explain to you. Then again, doing your own research is not for everyone. If I did not have a background in research, I would probably be lost.

Scared Sallie,

I just reread your post. So, you are on metaformin and flutamide and your doctor said it was okay to drink in moderation. This could be great news for this kid. I sneak a drink every third week or so, but I always feel so guilty when I do. Maybe I do not need to feel guilty?

Been using generic flutamide for almost 2 years , it has worked wonders for all testosterone side effects I hate, way better than spironolactone. Oily skin, oily hair, breakouts, hair loss. I also suffer from androgenic alopecia, inherited from my dads side. So I would probably have had hair loss even with out PCOS. I don't visit this site as much as I used to. So if you have any questions I may not answer right away.

I was on the birth control pill when I started I was told its best to take with either Yasmin or Diane35 (Diantte in Britain) .. it doesnt cause infertility (in fact my periods have started again (I havent had one in well over a year) the only thing is you must NOT get preganant on it and yuo must come of it six months before trying as it can seriously damage the male foetus.
