Wow, 20g or less per day??? That is less than required in a diabetic or getational diabetic diet. I am curious to know what happened when the women that got pg started eating healthy for the baby...eekkss! I wish I had the drive to eat like that. Everytime I try, I feel sick and have to eat some carbs.

I find these articles interesting but I would really like to see the weekly weigh ins.

Overall it suggests that weight loss in the <20g of carbs per day group was 12% but then further down it suggests that a study involving PCOS women eating <100g of carbs per day resulted in weight loss of 14%

I'd like to see the results of the studies on a weekly basis to see if the hypothesis is proved that women eating <20g of carbs per day have problems with lowered metabolisms. Did they lose most of their weight originally and then stabilise? Was it consistent across the 6 months.

Averaging it out it's 3lbs per month weight loss - this could be considered moderate or slow depending upon the weight of the individuals to start with - what kind of calories they were consuming, did they exercise, did some lose a lot of weight and others hardly any which resulted in an "average" weight loss of 12%

Questions, questions, lol. I shall do a google and try to find out more info.

You can find the full study at PubMed to see the methodology, or you can always email the authors of the studies.

I still have to read the article but I have to say I think a low carb diet really helped me to get preg. I had tried for 12 years and had been thin before, when I first started ttc. I even tried clomid and iui's but when I went low carb and lost over 50 lbs I became pregnant 1 month after my first iui and clomid last year. So in my case I really believe it worked. Keep up the faith.

Speaking from my experience,a ketogenic diet DOES help.Im about to start it all again...having gained weight in my last 2 pregnancies and am now having a helluva time dropping it.
What I did when I lost 65 pounds 8 years ago,was follow a diet in a book called "The Type 2 Diabetes Diet Book-The insulin control diet,Your Fat can Make you Thin" by Calvin Ezrin,MD and Robert E. Kowalski
I followed the diet in the book for about 4 weeks or so and then moved out of ketosis and onto a low carb eating plan I devised myself(all of this info on PCOS is so recent-I was alone pretty much figuring it all out)
in my eating plan I pretty much followed what would be called a lower glycemic, higher protein diet(similar to the IR diet)
and I EXCERSIZED!! I did cardio every day in the form of bike riding, and I walked as much as posible(approx 60 min or more a day) AND i did yoga daily....oh,and stopped coffee and drank mega water and tok a big fat multi vitamin.I dropped weight sort of slow at first.not what you hear usually about ketogenic diets...but it was when i switched to the low carb, low gi,IR style diet that the pounds dropped off.my theory was that ketosis sensitized my body to insulin but put a bit of a damper on my metabolism.when i started consuming medium-low amounts of carbs,my body had better fuel so revved up.thats what i think anyways.
I really think to ketosis introduction though was needed for me.it killed all sugar cravings, and set my body up for better use of sugars.
thought id share my take on this subject

low carb diets will work for EVERYONE if done the right way, period. How low you can go and how many refeeds you will need depends on the individual! Dont expect to eat bacon everyday and be healthy = )

And tons of cardio + low carb is not the way to go--however, low carb + weight training =

Blondie...can you define "refeed"?
and yes! weight training works wonders for me as well! I do it at home with lil 5 pound weights and resistance bands...i also love rebounding as I am a mom and cant ever seem to get out anymore to work out..
when i am low carb, low calorie,I cycle.3-4 days low cal low carb,2-3 days a bit higher carb, higher cal.works well....and I dont eat any fatty meat at all.bacon is yucky IMO..lol.prefer fish

But there is no one deal that works for all with PCOS, not even those who are diabetic .. I eat upwards of 300g of carbs a day and since 2003 have lost over 130 pounds and kept it off and I am a type 2 diabetic (with stable BGs and a good A1C).

its not been easy getting the weight off, I was following low carb and everything along that lines and the weight wasn't budgeing but once I upped my carbs (60% carbs, 25% protein and 15% fat) the weight starting shifting and coming off and staying off as long as I hold to that deal.
