Does Effexor cause weight gain?? I've been working on losing, but since I started Effexor XR, I'm basically staying the same. I've been taking it about 9 months now. It's really helped the depression, at least.

I have been taking Effexor XR (150 mg a day) for over a year now. I have not had a problem losing weight with it. In fact, it's given me more energy. I haven't had any side effects using Effexor.

It made me gain weight very rapidly within about a month of taking it.

But that said, all drugs work differently for everyone. If you do notice any weight gain, talk to your doc about changing drugs.
