Default Effexor questions

Effexor questions

I am currently taking 150mg of Effexor. I take it daily in the am. Since I have taken it I feel like a nut case. I am tense, hateful and inpatient. I can't sleep at night either. I have trouble falling and staying asleep. Which compounds everything else. Do you think this med could be wrong and doing these things? Or is it just a coincidence? Please advise on this med. Thanks.

I was on Effexor briefly...as in half the dose for two weeks...it gave me horrible, violent nightmares and I said, enough is enough and went off. Recently, due to a new bout with depression, I got put on Wellbutrin, since I didn't do well with either Celexa or Effexor(both SSRIs). The Wellbutrin seems to work ok with me and it's making me loose weight as well. But everyone is different!

I've been on effexor for about 6mo and I absolutely love it! I'm on 75mg a day and it has been significant in helping me get over my anxiety and depression. Perhaps your dosage is too high? Did your doctor ween you onto the medication or did you just start taking 150mg?

I've been on 75 mg and it's been a blessing. Maybe 150 is too high?

All a/d's are different. I did not do well on effexor(killer headaches), even at a low dose. I take Cymbalta and love it. I would say if it has been 2-3 weeks, might be time to try something else.

Effexor worked well for me when i was on it years ago. Maybe you need to start off with a lower dose. You should deff talk to your doc about it. The only issue i had with it was that it made me very tired. Good luck hun!

I was on Effexor XR 150, for 2 years, and it made me crazy, I ended up on anti-psychotics because my depression just wasnt easing up. I also had trouble falling and staying asleep, and was giving seraquel 5mg (anti-psychotic) to help with that. Then when I started Metformin, it did what I thought the effexor would do. I have had bad experiences with anti-depressents. In my case, it turned out to be a hormone disorder. I have been off of anti-depressents for a year and a half now.
Some people react differently to other meds, and you should give them a 3 month try. If they still don't work for you, go to something different.

I agree that maybe Effexor isn't for you. Or maybe it is, but the dose is too high. Either way you need to talk to your doctor about what is going on. That is the only way to know for sure.

I would say if you feel urges to self harm you should talk to your doctor ASAP. Effexor definately doesn't seem like the med for you.

Isn't it strange how a medication can work wonders for some people and do the exact opposite for others? I guess our brains all react differently!
