Sheera - I have a lifetime limit for IF too with my insurance but the meds and monitoring and IUI is unlimited, its just advanced fertility that has a 10k limit so for me basically one IVF and about 2 FET since not everything gets charged to the 10k.

For IVF an average amount of stim meds is say 100-150 of Gonal or Follistim (prices vary) and 1 Menopur per day and then the Lupron. I would say you would need 2 boxes of Lupron $260.00 2-3 Boxes of Menopur @72 each, and the HcG which is cheap. You also will need progesterone injections or suppositories there are many options, I am using a more expensive one Crinone Gel and Progesterone in Ethyl Oleate since its covered. Here is where I get my meds (the price list)

Maybe this can give you an idea. Also while your doing your IUI definitely save your meds. A lot of girls will also trade/donate. I have some extras, as soon as I get my BFP I'll be doing that.
Niki,
Thanks for the link. I'm glad you have halfway decent insurance coverage for IVF. I work for a major insurance company and our coverage is terrible!

Praying for our first miracle! Dh on HCG injections and Arimidex, hoping it works!

Niki--We did SET at the recommendation of the RE. We were really trying to avoid multiples, and the RE gave us a greater than 50% chance of conception with the one embryo. Plus, I live in MA, so our insurance would cover multiple IVF cycles (fresh or frozen) so we wouldn't have been several thousand out of pocket. We had a few other embryos that were good, so if the first one didn't take, we'd have done FET, like you. Im not sure if we would transfer 2 for a FET or how that would have worked out.

We were all concerned about the risks of a multiples pregnancy and DH and I were worried about our financial stability with twins, so we only wanted one baby at a time. Clearly, Mother Nature had other plans for us.

Anyway, it had a happy ending with two healthy boys and we're not starving or homeless, not yet anyway. But I did spend week 28-end of pregnancy on bedrest, with weeks 30-34 in the hospital, due to preterm labor. (That being one of the risks we were hoping to avoid. )

Anyway, good luck to Niki with her FET, and Sheera with starting an IVF cycle sooner than later, and Rachel with her impending twins (join us on the multiple moms thread---it's on the pregnancy buddies board).

redsox - I am glad for the coverage, what with actually working for the insurance industry you'd think a perk could be great coverage. I still am amazed that IF isn't mandated, but little by little it seems coverage is getting better and more widespread.

supermouse - that does make perfect sense, and God certainly did have a different plan for you. Best laid plans. Great to hear you are not starving and have a roof over your head.

We have no specific plans, but I think I can handle what God sends us. DH and I are a little older and pretty settled. We are ready for a family - even bought cars to accommodate a family when we are blessed with it. DH just bought me the Mountaineer that seats 7, my mommy instinct was screaming for it. So we'll put in what the RE recommends, they are very conservative anyway, and we'll see what happens. Luckily I work for a Catholic University. They are very family, health orientated etc. If I had to take a leave or bed rest etc. that would be OK, we have good benefits and job security.

I'm really interested in this thread. We're starting IVF in March after a failed IUI cycle (cancelled for too many little follies early on that would turn out to too many mature follies). I'm in MA, my RE is VERY conservative & doesn't do a conversion IVF. I still have to get insurance approval for an IVF but w/ my history (multiple losses, multiple multiple pg'cies, high incidence of overstimming), I think ins. will approve it...hopefully!

On average, how long does a cycle take (from BCP's to transfer)? We wanted to start in March but I also wanted the transfer in March so if it takes longer than 30 days, I can start BCP's in February.

Traci - I think that all cycles vary a little bit, but if it helps I can give you an idea of mine. I was an overstimmer with IUI and injectables (I still overstimmed with IVF) but was able to put off transfer because of the wonderful technology with cryopreservation.

After approx. 2-3 weeks on BCP I started Lupron (how long they keep you on BCP varies, but I think the idea is to start the lupron around CD21). Based on a 28 day cycle.
21 days of BCP's followed by
So CD21 Lupron 20 units (9/8/09) kept taking BCP's until around 9/16 approx
CD3 (9/19/09) Start to stim Lupron 5units, Menopur 75units and Gonal-f 112.5units
CD11 Last day of above protocol
CD12 Menopur 75 a.m. Lurpon 5 pm and Gonal-f 37.5 p.m.
CD13 Menopur 37.5 and Microdose HcG 5,000 units
CD 15 ER

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions I save all my cycle sheets and clinic info.

So if we want to do the transfer in March, I would actually start BCP's in February & Lupron/other injects in March?

Traci - I would think so. Everyone does different protocols, but if you are an overstimmer than you probably would be on a suppression protocol with BCP and Lupron. Remember it is somewhat controlled by your cycle or them initiating a cycle with provera! I hope it all works for you!!!
