Default Elevated liver enzymes.. help please!

I recently had a blood test and it showed, "slightly elevated liver enzymes." The doctor did not tell me to quit taking metformin NOR the tylenol 3 that I take for severe (and I mean severe) back pain. I kind of got scared and have lowered my dose of the T3 and stopped the Met (controlling blood sugar with diet/exercise anyway for some time now).

If you've ever had something similar, were there any symptoms that indicated liver problems...? Any at all? Thanks.

Josephine: None of us can tell you what is an acceptable level and what is not for liver enzymes...only your Dr can tell you that. You need to either get on the phone or make another appt to see him. Find out what his perception is of your lab numbers situation and let him know what you have done in terms of your meds. Caution is very wise here, but until you talk to him, you don't know what the cause is, and you need to know before you get into a dangerous situation.

Hope you can straighten this out soon.

Josephine,

I have had slightly elevated liver enzymes sporadically throughout the years. I haven't had that in a while, and never since being on Met, though. However, my doctor has told me that the tests can come back slightly elevated sometime; my doc usually retests after a short period of time to check them. Has your doc asked you to come back in the next few weeks for a retest?

One of the things that can increase the liver enzymes is a fatty liver, and one of the reasons for that can be obesity.

I agree with Christy that you need to talk to your doctor about this.

Linda
