Has anyone of you ladies adopted an embryo? Was it successful?
My husband and I are going to attempt getting pregnant on our own probably starting in January. Last time we did this I hadn't been diagnosed yet and wasn't on any meds. If this time doesn't work out, we're seriously considering embryo adoption. And if this doesn't work, then we'll consider regular adoption. I just want to experience pregnancy. At least once. Am I crazy for wanting this? The sites I have visited say there's only a 20-25% chance of pregnancy and the agencies will only do 3 embryo transfers per couple. Each embryo transfer approximately costs $4,100. This is even cheaper than In Vitro (according to what I've read).
Do any of you think this is a wise direction to try before traditional adoption? It is much cheaper than the traditional agency we are hoping to go through in case we do a traditional adoption.
Please let me know what you all think! I would really appreciate it.

I think you should do what is best for YOU and your husband and if embryo adoption is the way to go , then I say go for it. Lots of luck with what ever you decide to do.

That's intresting that you can adopt embryos. I really never heard of that. Forgive my ignorance (I feel like this might be a touchy issue) but is it like when you can 'select' your sperm donors traits? Can you select the embryo traits? Aren't embryos "leftover" from a IVF cycle? If it's cheaper than IVF that is so weird I guess ebcause you don't have all the monitoring required to 'make' the eggs in the beginging. GL whatever you and DH decide any baby is a miracle no matter how (s)he arrives. **BABYDUST**

We've changed jobs and they pay for 1 cycle
of IVF. So we are movin on. I am starting
the cycle in Oct but due to insurance issues
got the meds now being delivered on 12/30/06
My cousin went through IVF and has 4 beautiful children and is finiashed having children and has given me her embryos. So I have 8 frozen babes waiting for when we decide. She was going to adopt them out but could not because in our family we have a eye condition in the genes. Now to decide whether we keep trying or we use them. I sometimes wonder if there is one of them that is just meant to be born and then I will have my own????

Yes, the embryos are "leftovers", but they are typically from Christian couples who don't believe in destroying them. If we were to do In Vitro and had extra embryos then we would donate them. We may end up going this route if I don't have any eggs (the doc doesn't know if I have any and it hasn't been tested). So who knows. Thanks for the luck and babydust!

These are the two sites I've seen that appear to be the most reliable-looking. We still want to exhaust our own options before moving in this route. But I think we will if we don't get pg on our own. And if that doesn't work, then it's on to adoption. Sounds like we have a long road ahead! Good luck you guys!

My DH and I did embryo adoption. We used Dr. Jeffrey Keenan at embryodonation.org. He's a wonderful doctor. We tried twice, once in Nov. 04 and again in May 05. The first try didn't work, but we became pregnant the 2nd time, but miscarried. We are planning to try regular adoption as soon as we can put some extra money into savings.
If I can help you with any questions, just email me at JennH13@aol.com.
