Hi Jaxx,
I'm on Long Island, as well , but in Suffolk. I've been to a few Endos that looked at me like I was nuts. I think I knew more about pcos than they did , and being a "thin" cyster, they were more likely to brush me off.
If you find a good one- let me know!!
I have an appointment with my family doc. next week, and I'm going to ask him to recommend (yet another) one. If he/she's a good one, I'll let you know!

I just started going to an edocrinologist in Suffolk county and so far she seems pretty good. Seemed to know a lot about PCOS and the things she was saying was lining up with my research, experiences and what I hear here.
Dr. Jardine Stony Brook, NY
The only thing I will say is NEVER go to Suffolk OB-GYN. Not only have they done more harm then good whenever I let them touch me... one of the Doctors there, Dr. Edwards has the worst, destructively hostile attitude towards PCOS, especially heavy people with PCOS.
Dr. Jardine is one of the doctors that blew me off!!!
I hope you have better luck with her than I did. She didn't seem to think I could have pcos just because I wasn't overweight; nevermind the blood test results, lol!! I was completely irked by her attitude the 2 times I met with her! Best of luck to you, hun....I hope you get the help you need

My gyn is fantastic. He isn't an endo but he is extremely knowledgeable with PCOS. He diagnosed me. He is in Bethpage and his name is John Thanus. The website for that office is:

Susan- Wow! I am sorry you had that problem with her. I find it so weird that people can have such different experiences with the same doctor. My mom swears by the obgyn that treated me so horribly!!
Ciarrai, I know, it happens all the time....the first endo I tried is the most highly recommended in the area, but when I saw him, he told me my hirsutism was idiopathic- BULLSH!T!!!!!!! I have cyctic ovaries, high testosterone, IR, oily hair/skin, thinning hair, I won't go on--you know the symptoms!! He, like Dr. Jardine, said I was thin and had regular periods, so......NOTHING!
Besides, when he checked my face for hair growth, he didn't think it was that bad. I explained that I see (at the time) an electrolysis, in addition to daily tweezing to combat, but again...NOTHING!! Pathetic. From what I hear, he is the absolute best for menopausal women and diabetics....sucks for psoc girls, though. BTW, he is Dr. Kugler-ever hear of him?

Bbabsy31, I go to Bethpage OBGYN too (Dr. Terrani) - becasue of my PCOS and infertility they referred me to Dr. Steven Palter in Syosset. He's an RE who specialises in PCOS and endometriosis. He has published a lot and received different awards and according to Bethpage ObGyn, is the top man on Long Island. He left his position as a professor at Yale to found his own clinic, though he still sits on the Yale board I believe.
He's great and so are his staff. He really knows his stuff and they take a very personal aproach. He's also relatively young and very down to earth. My first visit he sat down with me for over an hour to discuss my symptoms and the approaches open to me. According to the nurse at a different facility, the reason I wasn't in pain during my HSG is because he is so skilled at performing them without causing any trauma to make the uterus contract.
Oh, and he seems to take most insurance plans! :-)
Eileen.

I have been thinking of going to a RE....but I have faith with Dr. Thanus. He advised me to have an IUI so I am thinking about it. I had my HSG done in that same biulding on the 2nd floor and it was THE WORST experieince for me....I started crying as soon as he put the tube in and blew up the bubble...I hope to never need another one of those.........

I am too far east for any of you to care...
but I LOVE my doctors and they were incredible when it came to PCOS
Hampton Gynecology & Obstetrics
Dr. Ott was my doctor but Dr. Alamia delivered my son and I think I will use him from now on. They are all incredible though.
I actually was blown off by my Nasau doctors.... Dr. Lau in Plainview and the practice of Garden City Obstetrics & Gynecology was teh worst... put it this way.. if I took the medication they wanted me too at teh dose they wanted it at (they had no clue what they were doing) I woudl have died. Good thing I dont trust doctors
Good to read about good doctors on the island. And nice to meet most of you ( a few i know already)

I am glad that you found someone that would listen to ya Tara. Dr. Thanus also mentioned another RE to me last timeI was there. Even though he said not to go that road just yet. I will have to pull the name up later.

Boldilocks, thanks for the suggestion. I am in Suffolk and had no idea how to go about finding a pcos friendly endo. I called their office yesterday and am in the process of making an appointment. The woman who I spoke to was really friendly and helpful, which I think is a really good sign. Thanks again, I really hope this works out.
