Exclamation Endocrineologist

I go to the endocrineologist for the first time in a few weeks, I have already read the section on what to ask your docs and stuff. Is there anyone that goes to an endo doc that can tell me the do's and don't forgets?? I have a pretty good idea of what I need to ask and stuff, I guess I am just afraid she is going to say..."well there is nothing I can do"!! I have been hearing those words for the last 15 years, now that I have offically been diagnosed PCOS, I am so afraid of hearing those words again...I just want to walk in there with a sense of "I KNOW YOU CAN HELP ME!!!"...Can anyone help me??

One who offically diagnosed you?

If it wasn't an endo, you could have a small issue. I my self was dianosed by two different N.P's of gynocology. Well the last endo i saw said i can't confirm the diagnoses from the lab test.........

They can help to balance out the hormonal issues. I would advise not allowing them to tell you to take bcp's as i've found it's a fix it all when they don't seem to really wanna deal with it. ( that is just my opinion )

Make sure to know what your medical records say, make them tell you numbers, and treat you as an individual and treat you for your symptomes and not what the lab test say. Not all labs say the same thing, and some don't even have the correct ranges for the 'normal' .

Good luck and if you need to chatter drop me a line. I go to my endo tomorrow the first time for a second opinion.

Yeah...it wasn't an endo, it was my gyno, all the lab work confirmed, as well as the sonogram showing polycystic ovaries. I have since taken the results to my PCP and he too said...YEP. He is actually the one that referred me to this Endo. Yeah, I am done with the whole BCP thing. I want to get my body straight to have babies. Should I take the lab results I have?? I have a copy of them...I just want to start taking steps in the right direction!!! This is so frustrating, to wait 15 years for the daignosis you'd think I'd have more patience! I just want to hurry up and be normal if that makes any sense!!!

Take your labs, and have WRITTEN summary of your menstrual history (dates, length, etc). Also you should have a WRITTEN list of symptoms that you want to have remedied (could be weight, high cholesterol, annovulation, excess hair, etc.). I look like an attorney going to trial when I go to the doctor...exhibit 1 - my labs, exhitib 2 - my menstrual history, etc

Don't leave without getting all the Rx's you need, or all the referrals you need (For instance, if you need to see a dermatologist for any skin problems.)

Then come home and research the meds that have been rx'd.

You might want to order the Medifocus guide and take a copy with you to the md's office. My doc was TOO happy about it. All of the recent research on treatments are neatly broken down into categories. (I know I sound like a broken record on this, but every cyster should have the Medifocus Guide!)
