Im new to this board still and not quite sure where to post this...
I went to my primary care yesterday and she said she greatly suspects i have PCOS, seeing how i have 99% of the symptoms and have a family history of it as well.. But to be fully diagnosed she suggested i go to an endo dr. but also suggested since i do want to have children within the next 5 years maybe an ObGyn would be better to go to. Which would be a better option? I just want to get treament started and hopefully correct this sooner than later.
I say either. I was officially given my dx by my OBGYN. My RE (reproductive endo) failed to do his job correctly as he was just interested in getiing my money since I have been trying to conceive since 200. I hope you find a great doctor. Maybe go to your OB first and have them refer you to a endo?

I was referred by my OB to an infertility specialist because I wanted children and they dx'd me with PCOS. i've seen an endo only for a 2nd opinion on whether or not there is something more I could do with diet, excercise, or drugs to help me lose weight. In which he prescribed Byetta, which has been working really well for me. but I still see an infertility specialist for doing IUI's.
I had terrible luck with OBs. Even though I was ttc I really wanted FIX my underlying problem of PCOS and no one would run labs beyond a testosterone panel. I believed that if we could improve my PCOS I would get my BFP (I was right too). I finally got fed up and went to an Endo and she ran all the lab and also diagnosed me with adrenal glands producing androgens...something none of the OBs even considered. I got pg during the testing but my endo is by far much more knowledgable about managing my PCOS for the long term.
Thanks everyone..
I went to an Endo when i was younger (18) and her answer was Met and "lose weight". As we all know, easier said than done! And being young and all the well known side effects of Met, i took it for a few days, and said heck with it..and that was that.
Now im older and want to get things straightened out, and while i dont necessarily want kids RIGHT now i do within the next couple years or so..
I made my appointment with the ObGyn, My mom has gone to her for years..and once you get in to see her she stays right on top of things from what ive seen with my mom. Shes also the same dr. that delivered my lil brother 13 years ago. So Im hoping she can help and get things on the right track..fingers crossed.
If they want to put you back on Met. Try MetXR, extended release, I had horrible side effects from regular Met but they were all manageable with MetXR. I would head to an reproductive endocrinologist after a trip to the endocrinologist. Only because an RE isn't covered sometimes by insurance. Good luck.
