I came here a couple of times last year and got some great support and advice. I got a bit downhearted after my ultrasound was inconclusive and my GP was dismissive (told me off for bothering him with "womens' problems"!)
Well, the hair on my face has got worse - I now have to shave my chin every day, I'm also sprouting on my back, the back of my legs, around my nipples and I have a bikini line that is totally out of control (sorry if that is TMI!) and I am sick of shaving and plucking.
I went back to the Drs this morning and saw the female doctor. She has referred me to an endocrinologist! I was just expecting blood tests but this can only be a good thing, especially as I am lucky enough to get PPP cover through work.
Can anyone tell me what to expect when I visit the endocrinologist?
I don't know what you should expect but it has to be good, right??? Excellent - thank goodness you got a different doctor this time (they're not all bad )!!!
I hope the endo appointment comes through quickly and that it's a success.
first off, sorry your last dr was awful. I too had to change dr to get any sence. An endo is the Hormone Dr. My first visit i had blood tests, talked. Had already had an internal ultrasound done at gyn clinic. Hope you dont have to wait too long for your appointment.

At my first endo appointment I had a scan of my ovaries, saw the dr who asked me about my symptoms etc, I got weighed and blood pressure taken, and I saw the dietician.
hope that helps- well done on the referral- its good to feel like your getting somewhere at last isnt it?

Hey roo, that is great news. Your endo is a path to many things! Find out everything you can about drugs and treatments and ask your endo to consider giving them to you.
Endocrinologists deal with a whole range of medical problems and mine checked about every gland I posess through blood tests to ensure I really was suffering from PCOS and not another underlying problem. If your endo is good thye will discuss your eating excersice options, if suitable they might offer you a weight loss drug they will refer you to a top quality laser clinic for your facial hair ( it depends where you live whether or not the NHS will pay for the treatment, but your first consultancy will be free). They can prescribe you medications that many GP's will not give out such as metformin and and anti androgen medications. They might give you a cream for your facial hair called vaniqa. They also deal with fertility issues, but I haven't gone down that route yet so I couldn't tell you about that.
I can see mine twice a year and I think they are fantastic, they made me feel human again and hearing a medical expert explain what my body was doing even though I knew, felt so good. I hope you see someone really good who can find some methods that work for you.
Thanks so much for your words of kindness and support. You really are lovely ladies.
Now I feel like I am on the way to getting the help that I need and to be honest, I am glad it's an endocrinologist rather than a gynae as I want to rule out diabetes and hypothyroidism (even though I know they can be all inter-connected).
I've spoken to PPP and my insurance covers endocrinology. I just have to go back to the GP tomorrow and get a letter from him (yep - got to back to the nasty man as he is my assigned doctor).
Good luck. Remember with the nasty doctor - deep breathing and assertiveness!! He is only human after all, though they would love us to think they are gold gods that we must worship at the feet of hahaha... clearly we missed out big time as we did not get into heaven (medical school). I think it's quite amusing that you have to go back to him - like nerr nerr I got a referral without you!

I attend an Endo and I find him fantastic, I used to attend a Gynacologist and she was fine too...They've pretty much both done the same thing for me, but it's all down to who they are and what kind of relationship you have with them.
I went in armed to the teeth with stuff that I'd downloaded from the internet...but I just said that I'd read it and then left it with him. I made sure not to tell him what I'd read and what I expected and wanted, they professionals really don't like you doing that, I learned that quickly! Once when I attended a gynae, I took a load of info in and said, 'this works...and this doesn't....but I wanted to know if I could have this, because that has side effects etc etc'
well, it didn't go down well!
His reply was 'I don't know why I even bother really, you seem to have done it all!'

Ive been to an endocrine on the NHS and she was abit rubbish, i dont have private medical care but i really need to get to the bottom of the excess hair prob so im thinking of paying for private advice. please could you advise me of the Pcos specialist you mentioned and any further info you have on them regarding prices, type of advice offered etc.
Hope your appt goes well, I think PCOS is def an endocrine disorder. I am being treated by Dr Conway (London) for a few years now. He def knows what I am talking about. He is internationally known for his work with PCOS, so if ya not happy with new dr's advice, try Dr Conway, The Middlesex Hospital, It NHS, but have NO complaints. Anything I want, I get. Good Luck
