Default Endocrinologist in South Louisiana?

Hey all,

I'm looking for an endocrinologist in the Baton Rouge area. Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't know of an Endocrinologist, I was just diagnosed this summer, but my OB/GYN is Dr. Kleinpeter at Woman's. I am sure he can recommend someone. I want to look into seeing an Endocrinologist too, just because I feel they will know alot more about to help us in our situation. Dr. Kleinpeter is great, after 20 months of TTC he was able to help me ovulate and within a few months I was pregnant. I feel that that is as far as he goes for PCOS, I mean just helping women get pregnant. When he told me that I had PCOS he was very nonchalant about it, like it was no big deal. I had to go out and purchase books and do some research online to understand what exactly PCOS is. I feel that an Endocrinologist would be way more insightful about this condition and would be helpful in managing it's many different side effects. After I have my baby I will definitely look into finding one. If you find a good one let me know.

Hey LaMommy,

Yay, congratulations! That is awesome! I'm going to a GYN at the LSU health center for my yearly in a few weeks. I've never been to him before, but fingers crossed that he knows a thing or two about PCOS & all of the lovely things that go along with it. I'll ask him about a possible endo & get back to you!

Dr. Peterman Prosser at the Baton Rouge clinic is a pretty good endocrinologist. He is older, and a little bit conservative, but is aware of PCOS. They actually have 3 or 4 endos on staff there, so you can pick and choose to a certain degree. My husband and I went to several different specialists there and liked them all. We got transferred to New Orleans, and then to Florida, or I would still be seeing the docs there.

Good Luck,
Tracey

Hey, I went to Dr. Burshell one time when we still lived in New Orleans. He seemed really nice and he knew his stuff when it came to PCOS. We moved to Florida before I had my follow up.

Take Care,
Tracey

Hi, I was just diagnosed last week. I was originally referred to Dr. Bhushan. A friend of mine with PCOS recommended him and my gynie referred me to him. I didn't see him b/c he was out sick. I saw his partner, Dr. Ory Marrioneax. I really liked him. He spent a lot of time with me and answered all of my questions. Both of these doctors practice in Baton Rouge at the Metabolic Center. It is on Dijon near Our Lady of the Lake.

I see Dr. Heber Dunaway in Baton Rouge. He has offices in Metairie as well as other locations. He is a Reproductive Endocrinologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of PCOS and infertility. He is awesome. He is a member of the fertility institute of New Orleans. Here is his bio from the fertility instutute.com page:

Heber E. Dunaway, Jr., M.D.

Diplomate, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Fellow, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Active Member, American Society of Reproductive Medicine, Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology, Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Dunaway is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed a Fellowship program in Reproductive Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. He was the founder and Medical Director of the Fertility and Laser Center, and decided to enter into a partnership with The Fertility Institute of New Orleans in 2002.
Over the years, Dr. Dunaway has held the position of Director of Reproductive Services for Baton Rouge General and Women's Hospital in Baton Rouge, and also Lakeside Hospital in Metairie. He is the past President of the Orleans Parish OB/GYN Society. Dr. Dunaway’s interest are varied with emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of PCOS, infertility treatment through ART, surgical and medical management of endometriosis, and the surgical management of uterine anomalies. Dr. Dunaway distinguished himself by being one of only two individuals to achieve pregnancies by Direct Oocyte Sperm Transfer (DOST).

Hope this helps!
