Was it for fertility reasons or just PCOS. What can I expect? I will be having an ultrasound too. The nurse in the office does the biopsy so it shouldn't be too involved, right? Thanks.

I will be honest with you in telling you it is painful but only lasts a few seconds. I recommend taking a muscle relaxant and a pain killer. |

I don't want to scare you but it hurts bad! My poor DH sat next to the table holding my hand and was upset b/c I was crying.
They basically take a long tube and insert it through the cervix into the uterus, then use some kind of wire loop to scrape a sample from the uterine wall. It's over pretty fast, but ouch!
((hugs)) Sorry you have to get that done! |

My Mood: Points: 132.83 Bank: 819.72 Total Points: 952.55 | I had a uterine biopsy which I think is the same thing for irregular bleeding to rule out cancer. It was painful (the Dr said like a very painful cramp) and then it was over. I was already miserable so it was miserable...sorry I couldn't be more positive. In hindsight, I think the bit of pain is worth helping in the diagnosis.
Good luck!!

GL and let us know how it turns out!

In any of these cases, did the doctor tell you when it should be scheduled (in regards to your AF?) ? I'm just curious...

If someone can go with to hold your hand, I would have them go. It's nice to have someone there. It's pretty breif. I felt a big cramp but my dr also warned my when she took the sample. She explained everything and explained everything before she did it so I wouldn't jump. Try to relax (I know easier said than done knowing what's going on) but it will help. Good Luck and Hugs.

They can also tell if you are building the lining of your uterus correctly at that specific point in your cycle (in other words, if you're on CD such and such the uterus should be showing certain growth/cells, otherwise that might indicate fertility issue).
I did not think it was painful--more like a bad pap. My doctor chose to paint my uterus with this stuff to keep it from bleeding (it did). He warned me that later "tissue" could come out. Tissue, shmissue, I thought, like another AF. Well, about 5 days later I was sitting in the restroom and I felt something "come out." It looked just like the skin off a roast beef--same size & everything, whoa! That was the tissue thing...didn't look anything like AF pieces. Just to warn ya!
For comparison, the biopsy was 1000000x LESS painful than my HSG.
