I was recently diagnosed with endometrial cancer as well. My GYN/onc started me on the progesterone. It has been an adjustment. At 32 with no children they are trying to preserve my fertility but with PCOS looming in the background, it's already an uphill battle to conceive let alone dealing with the cancer.
Best of luck to you. The hormones are said to work well in younger patients.

Reggyosu, good luck to you. I believe I chatted with you on another message board. hystersisters. How long have you been on the progesterone?

Yep! I am there as well, trying to learn all I can from people who are dealing with the same stuff as me. I've been on the progesterone for about a month and a half now.
First let me start by saying my thoughts and prayers are with you. Before you tried to concieve, did you go to the gyn routinely? My gyn never offered me a endo biopsy, but my RE did. He said with pcos, You should have one every year. i hope everything works out well with you.

Melinda, thank you. I did see my gyne routinely every year. I have only had a biopsy done one other time and that was when I saw my RE years ago when I was trying to conceive my son. My son is now 3 (almost 4) so between then and now I have not had another biopsy. Just the last 2 months before my diagnosis I had a symptom which was bleeding between periods.
Just a quick question...how are you finding the side effects of the progesterone? The thought of maybe going through all of that again is enough to make me seriously consider having the hysterectomy! But maybe they've refined the dosage...or found a better way to combat the side effects...
ChristinaG and I have been talking about the side effects... I'm hating them but it may be more about all that is going through my head and not really the progesterone. I've been super moody with a really short fuse, the weight gain aspect of it is not appealing as PCOS is bad enough, my dr cautioned that it could increase my sugar even more but my fasting sugar came back ok after being on it for two weeks. My migraines have gotten worse and I have experienced some of the sleeplessness. What is really killing me is the shortness of breath. That came out of nowhere and while I'm not in the best of shape, I had never had that problem before.
Berkana, so far the only side effect I'm really experiencing is I'm a little moody but I've only been on the meds for 4 days now so maybe all the side effect havent kicked in. From what I've been reading and hearing...the side effects from a hysterectomy are way worse. You have the hot flashes, the moodiness, sweating, and your bladder drops and you can't hold your pee in too well. I say if I only have to go through this for a few months, I'll take it.
Hmmm...true, the side effects of a hysterectomy can be rather unpleasant as well. But I spent 6 months on massive doses of the progesterone which left me violently nauseous and exhausted and moody. Those are the ones I remember the most vividly. It felt like I slept all the time, and every moment I was awake, I was fighting not to toss my cookies. I also learned that, no matter how nauseous you are...you can still eat. It was either eat or starve...and I wasn't that crazy about losing weight by starvation!
For me the nausea kicked in the second day I was on the medication. The doctor rearranged my dosage schedule a little bit to help reduce the side effects a bit, but didn't lower the dosage at all. Since it seems like more and more women are being treated with progesterone, I'm wondering if they've started incorporating something into the drug to counter-act some of the side effects? I'm hoping so...or maybe they've come up with more accurate dosage guidelines. I still remember the shocked look on the pharmacist's face when I handed her my prescription. She had to phone the doctor to verify. She had never seen a prescription for such a high dosage. Maybe that has something to do with the side effects as well.
Ah well...I may be completely jumping the gun, by worrying about side effects and such already, when I haven't even seen the gyno here yet. It's just that everything I've been experiencing lately FEELS the same as last time...the symptoms are all the same...and last time was plenty scary enough.
I have my fingers crossed for both of you. It turned out very well for me the first time around. After I was done my treatment I felt absolutely wonderful for the first time in a long time. I hope it's the same for you.
Berkana - what dosage were you on? And did u take the pills all at once? I'm taking 40mg 4x daily. Have u scheduled an appointment with your gyne yet? Please do.
It was 5 years ago now. I don't remember the exact dosage I was on, or the exact type of progesterone. I want to say Provera, but that may not be the correct one. Originally I was supposed to take the pills all at once in the morning. That really messed me up though, so I switched to taking one in the morning, one after I got home from school (I was in college at the time), and one before bed. That was ok, but left me feeling so drained that it was difficult to function. Eventually I switched to taking them all at once in the evening and going straight to bed. I slept through the worst of the side effects and by morning was at least able to function through the day.
I have an appointment with the gyno in August. Originally the appointment was supposed to be September, but I called and begged them to put me on a list in case someone cancelled. The receptionist rearranged a few people and managed to squeeze me in for August. I'm still on the list though, in case someone cancels and I can get in earlier. Considering how difficult it is to get in to see the gyno's here, I don't think many people cancel!
Have either of you women talked to your doctor about maybe getting a perscription for phenegrin (SP). i don't know what kind of pain and nausea ya'll are experiencing but I know phenegrin might help with some of it if ya'll could try that. goodluck to both!
I know how you feel. I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy done only yesterday because my ultrasound showed endometrial hyperplasia. I'm now just waiting for the results and I am absolutely terrified that it is cancer. I understand how you are feeling. I am 36 but never had any children and am scared that I will never be able to. My thoughts are with you.
