Okay, I have been seeing a doc for a little over a year now, an endocrinologist. My problems is that I have had, what I call, this "weird" bleeding. At first, 5 years ago, it was this brown liquidy substance and now it more looks liked melted chocolate. The more research I do the more I lean towards endometriosis.
Back in September I was but on Megestrol which is to make you stop bleeding. It worked for several months, but now the "weird" bleeding is progressing again. Sometimes it only lasts a few days and others it will last a week or so.
So how would I go about presenting to my doc that I don't think that the Megestrol is working and I am leaning towards endometriosis? Is there a place where I can research before I go to him? I want to make sure that all my bases are covered.
All I really want to know is what is wrong with me. That is it.
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
Sorry for all you have been enduring with this.
If i were you I would make another appt. with Endo bring all your research regarding the endometriosis as well as maybe some type of log of your process on the medication that you were taking. Include in the log/notes how long you took it for, s/e, when did the bleeding stop for you & how long it worked to prevent you from bleeding.Because if it doesnt work for you then it doesnt work & they need to further investigate. I also feel you should note down any pains in your pelvic area, any odd Bowel movements what not & just go thru all info on endometreosis symtpoms that you think are similiar to yours.
I remember all the times i took B/c pills & the longest they worked for me as far as making e bleed was 7 months, then after that it didnt work for my pcos/endo pains or make me shed my lining due to overproduction of my own estrogen so i was told. So if it doesnt work its not worth taking it!!! So now I refuse to take bcp's!
This is just my opinion, & I hope this helps! Just make sure youre prepared when you go to your visit with as much info as possible!
I wish you the best of luck!

I have actually been seeing the same doc now for over a year now. So he knows my ins and outs.
The only thing is, with this last drug, Megestrol, that he has put me on ... it has made my regular period go away, which that is what it was supposed to do. Megestrol is a progesterone. It was working fine with only a little spotting here and there for the first few months. Now I only saw my doc last month (at the beginning) and since then I have have had this dark brown discharge, the same thing I have been going to him for all along. For the longest now I have thought it was old blood. (This may get a lil gross!) Ever since my period I have always had really thick blood and even come out in clots. And that is kind of how this old blood/brown discharge comes out.
But now since that I have been on this drug that makes me stop bleeding, I am beginning to wonder if it is really old blood or not?!? I was trying to do some research on my symptoms and there was one site that had the description of "brown substance, which resembles melted chocolate." Which is EXACTLY how I would describe mine if I only knew how to put it into words!!! It went on to say that "doctors refer to this problem as a chocolate cyst. The alternative name is an endometrioma."
Here is another thing: I have been to MANY doctors ... and I have had a lot of them tell me that it is all in my head!!! I am getting a lil tired of that! I have labs, ultrasounds, and probably just about every other test run on me ... and I turn out perfectly fine!! But the part that I am leery about is, when I was 19 they found a free floating cyst behind my uterus and it didn't show up on ANY test they ran on me! They ended up doing an exploratory surgery to see what they could find, and only then did they "accidentally" find it! I just don't want to go through that again either!!!
I have been dealing with this brown discharge for 5 years now. It is starting to wear me down. I am getting tired of being told that I am crazy and I just want to have a "normal" sex life/female parts!!

I think you could be better off going to a gynocologist rather than an endo - they specialise in problems with hormones, which endometriosis isn't really. When my GP thought I might have endometriosis is was a gyn he referred me to and who did my both of my laparoscopies (one for diagnosis the other for treatment).
Even if you don't have endometriosis it sounds like a gynocological problem.
Hope you get to the bottom of it. Good luck!

That is the one good thing about my doc though. He does not only specialize in endocrinology, but also OBGYN too! Which is the main reason why I went to go see him.

I totally understand where your coming from!I have the same type of d/c and periods when I have to induce them with Provera. Even when I got them on my own, they were always ALWAYS heavy, very clotty, and I have had the choc brown blood in the beginning of getting my period,, a few days before or at the end, or thru the entire period & it was always clotty!I have 2 of the best Dr's here in NJ, & they are extremely educated in PCOS & endo & many other disorders. They told me that this is a characterisitic of PCOS & Endo UNFORTUNATELY!!! But they said they were glad tat I told them both due to the fact that they need to know that. I just saw my gyn yesterday & he asked me if mine were still that way & ofcourse when i decide to induce my period yes it is. And even alot of the times it is old blood built up. Its nothing to be alawrmed about or scared about, but something that your dr's need to listen to you about & take seriously.
I have just recently got back in touch with my biological fathers family & he has 7 sisters and 2 of them have PCOS, The 1's daughter has PCOS really bad and her other daughter has endo & Lupus really bad. And the same thing that u and Ihave with bleeding they all have! It really is a charachterisitic of PCOS & ENdo, & if you dont bleed for long periods of time it is also blood that is built up. Im not a dr but my info I am giving you is per 2 of my dr's and the info from my aunts & my 1 aunts 2 dtr's.
But please try & have them further investigate because it would give you piece of mind & what not. I know your frusterated & feel like your going crazy, but your not!!!! Yoru perfectly normal & your worried for good reason. Its not normal for someone who is not pcos/endo or any other hormone disorder but for us yes it is. Not all of us have it but alot of us do.
Please dont worry & please just be persistent with the dr on giving you a reason and solution for this.

That's good. I would tell him all the information you can that might be related to this, as Chrissy said, and that should help him to diagnose what's going on.
If it turns out you do have endometriosis I think there is a support thread kicking around somewhere.

I already made up my mind that I am calling his nurse first thing this morning. Even if I don't get an appointment today, I will try for one next week.
What kind of treatment is there for this, or is there any?

Thank you guys so much. {{{huggz}}} I am so glad I found SC!
Even when I am sitting the the waiting room and I over hear another woman talking about some of her female problems, I always have pen and paper ... so I can slide them the link to SC!

Your so welcome!!!! I was not really told of any real tx for it, I mean they did explain lupron to me but i am not doin that no way atleast not till i have my children! They also explained laproscopic surgery to remove lesions & what not but they are not real fans of it unless their patients are ready to get pregnant or in real serious cases. But discuss your dr's options for it. He may have a different approach.
Best of luck!!! Keep us posted!

Thanks again. Like I said ... I am calling the nurse this morning ... and I will see what she has to say. I *LOVE* her. She always gets me an appointment even when I can't get one for the next several weeks cause my doc is booked! Just have to wait for them to open now.
I will definitely keep everyone posted!
