I had some issues, but they weren't neccessarily quite the same as yours. I too was sent home with no pain meds or anti-biotics. At first, I thought everything was great. I wasn't bleeding at all. They must've gotten all the blood out! Three days later, I started having intensly painful cramping. My husband called the on-call doctor, who said that because it was the weekend, they couldn't give me pain meds since they couldn't confirm I'd had the surgery. (Very comforting that your own on-call doctor can't confirm your surgery). After about 8 hours of this, I sat on the toilet, had contracts and went into shock. When I stopped responding after about a day of this, my husband called the ambulence and they put me on a variety of drugs to treat the pain and shock. I spent about another day in the ER. They had to give me meds to cause the rest of the blood to come out and they gave me percocet to take with them. I took the meds that caused the bleeding to continue for three days. The ER doc basically told me that they had not properly done the surgery. The fetuses were removed, but she wasn't clear on why there was so much left inside. (My uterus was not punctured, which is aparently the most common cause for problems.)
So I'm looking for a new practice, since I'm not very pleased with how this whole thing was handled. But I interviewed these people. They seemed good. I don't really know how to tell who will be effective and who won't.
I don't think I will have a d and c if this happens again. I'm sure that most go well, but this didn't really save me any pain or discomfort and the expense of the ambulence and all the nonsense with the ER was quite high. The doctor explained to me how painful it would be for me to take the meds to cause the miscarriage, but compared with all that happened, it wasn't so bad. Plus, I still have the left over pain medication, so if I need it, I can take that. That way, it's OK if I have a complication on a weekend.
