I feel like a total failure today.. I've been busting my butt for the past 6 months 3 days of cardio a week 3 days of strength training. I've stopped eating all the bad stuff started eating all the good stuff the nutritionist suggested. Stuck to my 2000 (that the nutritionist put me on) cal diet like a trooper and my reward I gained 14 lbs.
Of course my endro didn't take it well she in fact thinks I have done nothing of what she's told me to do. I feel blah.. I thought I was doing good..
I'm sorry you've been dedicated and had stinky results. Don't get discouraged. You are NOT a failure. Did you explain to the endo that you HAVE been sticking to you diet/exercise plan?
Have you tried reducing your carb intake? That really helps me.
Also, for what it's worth, I need to do a lot of cardio (4+ days per week) at a high intensity if I want to lose weight. My heart rate needs to go up and stay up to about 80% of my max for most of my workout. Last February, I was watching EVERYTHING I ate (fat, carbs, calories counted daily) and I was doing two spin classes per day about 5 times per week. That's what it took to get the scale to really move down.
Another thing to consider is that weight training can help you lose fat, and muscle really does weigh more than fat. The number on the scale tends to go down slower if you are building muscle. The trade off is that building the muscle helps burn more calories so the weight loss is more permanent.

Hi Trinity ~ I just wanted to say I hear you on this one. I have been doing major cardio/resistance training, and getting about 1700 balanced calories, and my scale is not going down at all... in fact, it's going up. When I told my endo about this, she just said "losing weight is hard for everybody". Lots of care and concern in that statement. I'm very sorry you're so frustrated. Our hormones just don't want to let go of any fat sometimes! And I do believe that it is all hormone-related. So it's not "your fault"... try to keep that in mind. Hang in there, cyster!
are you guys keeping track of your measurements? Do your clothes fit better/different? these things are actually better indicators of success than the number on the scale. . .

This is so true! Just the other day I was reading a thread in the Diet and Exercise forum that mentioned an exercise DVD that reshapes the body yet the results don't really show on the scale like you'd expect they would. Someone mentioned their weight didn't decrease yet their pants were falling off!

That's what I was trying to tell her! I can tell my body is changing wether the scale wants to reflect that or not. I've lost inches around the chest area heck I had to buy a few new bras because the ones I bought 2 mnths ago were too loose same with the way my shirts are hanging. She just didn't want to relent
Well, if your clothes are now too big, your efforts have definitely been paying off!!! I'm sorry your doctor doesn't see this. As long as you focus on being healthy and you feel good about yourself, don't let your endo get you down.
Also, don't forget that building muscle can really help IR, and this can help PCOS symptoms.

I am sorry to hear that. I am so new to all of this that I am not able to offer any advice. Just my support and hopefully comfort to you, knowing that you are not alone.
Blessings!
Heather
also, since you are gaining more muscle, you will burn more fat, so you should see a decrease in thenumber on the scale eventually, just don't give up, and start using that measuring tape! lol.

Yes... and those numbers are going up too. I've never worn this large of a pant size before...
Trinity, stick to what you are doing!!! Doesn't sound like your doctor fully understands the weight loss process. Your measurements tell the tale! Congratulations!!

For someone who has been exercising for 2 years, tell your Endo you are buring fat and it's turning to muscle. Alot of times when people as me what I weight they swear I'm lying but most of my weight now is muscle, and muscle, and I can even feel the difference. Don't get discourage about what she says, keep up the good work, and seen that you've had to buy clothing that fits, is a good indication you are following through.

Hi, just wanted to say congratulations on making the commitment to workout and don't give up! You may want to increase the cardio to 4 to 5 days and reduce your resistance to 2 days and see if that helps. Also you mentioned that she has you on a 2000 cal a day diet. But what does she have you eating? I've lost 87 lbs, believe me it took a while, but it was on a low glycemic diet. Not a lot of carbs, but the ones I ate were complex carbs like brown rice and quinoa. Also no sugar, no soda, no sugar replacements. But there is this great sweetner, totally natural and low glycemic it's called agave. It's really sweet. Um, lots of vegetables. No corn or potatoes. Limited peas (starch if you can believe it). No tropical fruits, mango, papaya, banana, pineapple. But lots of berries and other fruits. Proteins in eggs, lean meats, fish, and poultry. My nutritionist also said no pork, don't know why. All organic when possible, especially in your meats, eggs, and dairy. Oh and no processed juice, too much sugar. But I got to make a smoothy every morning with frozen berries and whey protein powder, or frozen berries and organic yogurt. Very yummy and satisfies that sweet craving. At least one salad a day with olive oil and balsamic or olive oil and citrus juice. You are doing great, the important thing is not to give up and don't let the negative get to you. Get mad and use your anger towards your goal. If you are losing inches that is awesome. Keep going! Every day you work out is another day that you are taking care of yourself.
I'm in the same boat that you are in. I have to stick to about a 1200-1400 cal per day diet with 5 days per week of 45 min of cardio to lose weight. It is a bit easier th lose when I fit in weight training, but that is so hard to find time for. Good luck!
