Hello there!
I'm a Reiki practitioner - so very interested in energy work. Sounds like this person is not Reiki trained, by what's called (for wont of a better term) a 'Western' style healer. A bit like the christian 'laying on of hands'. These 'healers' have no real ethics to guide them, hence starting a healing on you without even asking permission, first. In Reiki, it's only acceptable to pass 'healing' to someone who asks for it. I'd be a bit concerned about this.
In Western style healing, they tend to believe the healing comes from their 'God' and that they are 'healers'. Hence, prone to weakening themselves when healing and taking on the symptoms of the healee! In Reiki, it's believed the practitioner simply channels the energy, so gets all the benefits of it, and it's impossible to be weakened or made ill, or pick up the client's symptoms. I'd suggest she gets some Reiki training quick if what she's doing is making her ill. Reiki is less ego based as we believe practitioners do nothing, just being a conduit for the energy to do its work. Anyone can be attuned to Reiki - rich, poor, any belief system or atheist. It's nothing to do with religious belief. You don't even have to believe in Reiki to be attuned to it!
The experiences you describe are common reactions. I would be very wary of letting anyone treat me if they're going to switch on healing without my permission, though, as they may not know what they are doing. If you can open someone up to such powerful experiences, you can also be leaving them open to less positive things - best left in the hands of someone who has been trained. Any 'healer' who has to consciously 'detach' to protect themselves, is a bit of a loose canon.
