Default Energy Work & Spiritual Healing?

I get a massage every month because of neck/shoulder/back tension.

Yesterday my massage therapist seemed to do a similiar massage but
slightly different.

I had the most wonderful experience. I've been struggling a bit lately but during the massage I suddenly saw (and this sounds a bit corny) that the universe was multi-layered and we would never understand it but every being was unique and beautiful because they had a place in the world. I felt detached from my body & just floating above.

When it was over I felt THE best I had felt in at least 12 months. The therapist left me in there, then I went into her office to pay.

She had her back to me because she was on the computer. I asked her "What did you do differently, it was so amazing". And she replied that she had done some 'energy work & healing'.

Then she turned around to face me & she had tears streaming down her face. I asked her what was wrong & she said she was fine, but that she had picked up on my 'negative energy' and that I had a lot of 'emotional pain'.

Apparently the last time she did it was ages ago & with a cancer patient & it left her drained for days so it put her off. She was never going to do it again but couldn't ignore the 'vibes' from my body so 'just went with it'.

I begged her to do it again next month but she said she can't promise anything because you need to really detach & focus when doing this work otherwise you pick up on the patients negativity energy.

Does anyone know anything about this 'energy work & healing'?? I would NOT have believed in the power of it had I not experienced it first hand.

I don't mean to discount your experience... but I've heard it is just pressure points that make you feel so lightheaded that you feel 'out of body'. I don't know much about it though.

No not at all. I didn't mean it was a religious experience or other worldly just a great experience. Sounds like your right and it's pressure points. But maybe I'm posting in the wrong forum so I've also posted in Alternative Remedies.

It sounds like a great experience. Massage therapy can do wonders for stress-release. I'm not sure about the energy/spiritual healing - but it sounds to me like you left with both!

Take care

Hello there!

I'm a Reiki practitioner - so very interested in energy work. Sounds like this person is not Reiki trained, by what's called (for wont of a better term) a 'Western' style healer. A bit like the christian 'laying on of hands'. These 'healers' have no real ethics to guide them, hence starting a healing on you without even asking permission, first. In Reiki, it's only acceptable to pass 'healing' to someone who asks for it. I'd be a bit concerned about this.

In Western style healing, they tend to believe the healing comes from their 'God' and that they are 'healers'. Hence, prone to weakening themselves when healing and taking on the symptoms of the healee! In Reiki, it's believed the practitioner simply channels the energy, so gets all the benefits of it, and it's impossible to be weakened or made ill, or pick up the client's symptoms. I'd suggest she gets some Reiki training quick if what she's doing is making her ill. Reiki is less ego based as we believe practitioners do nothing, just being a conduit for the energy to do its work. Anyone can be attuned to Reiki - rich, poor, any belief system or atheist. It's nothing to do with religious belief. You don't even have to believe in Reiki to be attuned to it!

The experiences you describe are common reactions. I would be very wary of letting anyone treat me if they're going to switch on healing without my permission, though, as they may not know what they are doing. If you can open someone up to such powerful experiences, you can also be leaving them open to less positive things - best left in the hands of someone who has been trained. Any 'healer' who has to consciously 'detach' to protect themselves, is a bit of a loose canon.

Thanks PollySis.. I did feel a bit lousy that she was feeling so awful after it. She is primarily a beautician - waxing but also massage. I had no idea about the healing thing.
It didn't 'last' either, but it was a great feeling for about 24 hours.
So maybe I will find out about Reiki? It's not normally something I would explore but at least this woman got me interested.
