I have probably mispelled the title but no bother. I got up the nerve to call her father to ask for her hand in marriage and both he and his wife agreed that I may go ahead if I'm ready to. They commented that I didn't have to do that but it is tradition and what a man does...makes sure he meets the father one on one and promises to take care of his daughter for the rest of her life. It was a powerful moment. After getting off the phone, I immediately got up a pen and paper and wrote out a poem. At the end of her work shift, we went out for a small bite to eat before heading back to her apartment where we relaxed...and then she asked what I talked about with her parents. I revealed it to her and brought out the poem which I read to her...after that, I got on one knee and asked if she would marry me. And she said yes! It is a surreal moment...something I shall never forget. I am not expecting anything...I just thought I would share.

That's wonderful news, SoulDoctor!
Congratulations! I think it is marvelous that you asked her father for her hand in marriage. Not too many guys are considerate enough to do that anymore. You are a class act.
I wish you and your sweetie many years of happiness. My DH and I just celebrated our 20th year and we are still very happy and in love. I wish you all the best.
Kathryn

That is wonderful news! I know it is old fashioned and most guys don't do it anymore, but my DH went to see my dad and asked him for my hand. I thought it was the most wonderful, thoughtful thing! It showed me that not only did he love and respect me, but he also respected my parents! He is definitely a keeper and I suspect you are, too! Good luck to you and your fiance!

I'm gonna stop looking back and starting moving on
And learn how to face my fears
Love with all of my heart, make my mark
I wanna leave something here
Go out on a ledge, without any net
That's what I'm gonna be about
Yeah, I wanna be running
When the sand runs out
- Rascall Flatts "When the Sand Runs Out"
WOW! Congrats to you and your sweetie! She is very lucky, you are such a romantic! If only my DH could take lessons from you.....

*blushes and wipes away a small tear* Thank you...you are all very kind. This is a major step in our lives and it is refreshing to come to a place like SoulCysters and expect not to get flamed for expressing what is going on in my life. This was very nice of you...and AMEG, thank you for the sound advice. I will be sure to do that and more if I can help it. That is why I love that smiley so much...it is rather difficult to keep it off my face.

Such exciting news!! Congratulations to you and your fiancee! Please do keep us udpated on your plans.
My dh also asked my Dad for my hand in marriage. He did it when we were visiting my folks in Canada about a month before we got engaged. He didn't tell my Mom beforehand because she CAN'T keep a secret and everbody knows it ... how both my dad and my sweetie kept the secret for a month I will never know!
Best wishes for a happy future together!
