While having my checkup with my PCP last Friday, she noticed an enlarged thyroid in my neck. She ran some blood tests...
What does that mean? Does anyone else have this?
Thanks

It may be a sign of an infection, or of a thyroid disorder like Hashimoto's or Grave's Disease.
You'll know a lot more after you have the blood results back. My thyroid was first found to be enlarged when I was 17 (I have Hashimoto's). However, I did not require medication until I was 29. I did have a left thyroidectomy due to a suspicious nodule when I was 22, but that was unrelated to the enlargement. My little half a thyroid is still enlarged to this day (all the docs say, 'wow, that's big!')
They may ask you to also undergo a radioactive iodine uptake test, depending on what the bood tests show. If your levels are normal, they'll probably just want you to be checked again every year or two unless you notice symptoms.

My Thyroid is also enlarged (about 2.5 times) and my Endrocrinologist ran some tests and found that all my level for thyroid (TSH, T3, T4 etc..) were all normal, but that I had high thyroid (microsomal) antibodies. What this means he said, was that my body is attacking the gland, but at this point its still functioning fine. All he is going to do is monitor the levels every 4-6 months and when they do start to change and the thyroid starts to loose its function (which it most likely will at some point) then he will start the medication.
So, try not to worry too much.
I would recommend that you see an Endrocrinologist though...since they specialize in this. Good luck to you!
My thyroid is enlarged too. I have a HYPERTHYROID, the early stages of Grave's. It showed up in blood test and I had a thyroid uptake scan done. I just went to the endocrinologist today. I will be taking a PTU and blood test every three to six months. My mom has a hypothyorid (not PCOS or IR). Seems to be "normal" to also have a problem with your thyroid.
I had severe hyperthyroid too last year! They have know for years that I have Hashimoto's, and at first they thought I might have BOTH Hashi's and Grave's! After the uptake and some further testing, though, it turned out that I had a rare complication called Hashimoto's Thyrotoxicosis (about one in 10,000 Hashimoto's patients get it). It was a scary time, because the antithyroid meds used to treat Grave's don't work very well, and other than the beta blockers they offered (I refused because they make IR worse) there wasn't much they could do. I'm glad they figured out what was going on with you, and I hope it's resolved for you soon.
