Default Epilators..

So, I am awaiting my wax kit that I ordered, but I am also thinking about the Epilator. I have very course hair on my chin, like man beard hair. There isn't a whole lot, but enough to make me have to shave everyday. Does anyone have strong opinions on any epilators?

What brand works for you and how well?

How bad does it hurt?

I just don't want to spend a lot of money on something that doesn't work.

I love epilators. They totally work, and are well worth every penny.

If you live near a Target store, they carry several brands, including a couple that are 'just for face'. (Braun is good brand.)

I'm skeptical about them too. I know my Mom tried an Epilady in the late 80's and she said it ripped the hair right out and emphasized the feeling.
Kat, I know you recommended them to me but I'm still a bit nervous about putting something coil that rips hair out of the follice on my face

Also Kat, do they work alone? Or do you have to use other methods of hair removal to get rid of the hair?

I am proud to say I actually have an original from the 1980's and it still works. Why because I never use it, lol. It really hurts to use. It's like taking a really big tweezer and ripping a whole bunch of hairs out at once. If I can psych myself up about the pain, then i can sometimes use it and it doesn't hurt so bad.
If you can handle pain then i guess it would not be to bad

OMG, is that the Epilady? That thing hurt so badly it wasn't funny. Donate that puppy to a museum!

The newer ones don't hurt nearly as badly - if at all.

ROFLMAO Yes it is an Epilady and I got it the first year they came out. It cost $80 at the time, which was ALOT of money.
I am sure they have a hair removal museum somewhere, lol.

I am glad the new ones don't hurt as bad

So, how bad would you say that the pain is? I have never waxed my face, I have tweezed before but I think that really hurts. I was looking around online to see if there was numbing cream I could use before I used the epilator or waxed. I can tolerate a lot of pain, just not very much on my face (GO FIGURE). What would you say it feels like?

OMG, the Epilady!!! I still remember the first (also the last) time I used one of those. I got it as a Christmas present when I was around 12. It caught the skin on my leg in the coil thing. There was a terrible bruise there for over a week.
The new ones aren't bad at all. I have the Braun Silk Epil and love it for legs and other body hair. It looks like an electric razor, and it doesn't hurt anything like the originals. It does sting a bit in areas where the hair is coarse and more dense (think upper thighs and armpits), but it's bearable.

well I guess I need to get a new one too, lol
as for any numbing creams, they didn't work for me because they only numb the top layer and what hurts is the hairs being pulled at the roots. There is no cream that I am aware of that will numb that deep.
When I had lazar on my face they gave me a cream that you had to put thickly on your face for two hours ahead of time. That didn't even go down that deep and that was a strong RX. I could be wrong though, it seems every time I say something on here, I am told that I am out of date and something knew is around, lol. Well I am agoraphobic and haven't really left my house often in the last 2 years but still, lol.

I managed to get my armpit caught in my epilator today between the tweezers and the plastic outer. I brought my arm back down and didn't move the epilator away fast enough, so of course my skin was no longer taut and somehow managed to get stuck. I don't imagine it would have been so bad had I not got a fright and yanked it away. I suspect there will be a bruise in the morning!

Ouch, I tried to use my epilator on my armpits the other week...won't try that one again!

I have a Braun epilator that works great! It has different attachments, one for the face. Bought it at Ulta. I have never used it on my face, but I'm sure it works great. I spent a fortune on laser hair removal a few years back for my face, but it was so worth it. I still have to tweeze, but not nearly as much.

Yeah, under the arms is hard with the epilator. I finally took the plunge last month, and had them lasered. Like the face? Well worth it!

let me just say that epilators are the best things ever. i use it on my back, stomach, butt, and legs, and to get the longer fuzzies on my face. the brand i use is sin dolor by emjoi, which means "without pain" in spanish. lets just say this is a lie, especially on your leg hair. i wouldn't dare use it on my bikini line or armpits. jesus christ. the pain is worth it though! it doesn't get exactly all of the hair, so you still have to shave some, but it stays smooth for alot longer. it's also great because my leg hair is sort of dark, and pulling out the hair eliminates the problem of the little brown leg dots after i shave.

just one thing to keep in mind: the very first time i used it my skin had red dots all over it for a couple of days. (it warns you in the instruction manual of that though) so make sure you use it for the first time when you can cover up. i still get red dots but not as bad; i just make sure to epilate at night and put aloe on it so the red dots will be gone by the next day.
