My aunt has epilepsy and it wasn't triggered until her mid-twenties. It's very possible for many disorders to be dormant from birth or many years until something triggers it. She is also on meds for the rest of her life. I'm sorry you have to go through it but you are not alone.

I have seizures and I honestly believe mine was triggered by BCP. I had never had one in my life until I started taking BCP to regulate my periods when I was 19. The Dr says he's never heard of BCP causing seizures, but I never had problems until after that. I hadn't had one since 2000 and then in Dec of 2007 I started having them again. I also developed PMDD and the seizures also cluster around my period so we have determined it is hormonal now but I had been able to go off my seizure meds and now I have to be back on them. I'm like you and would just like to know why it happened all of a sudden to me too. My BIL has seizures, but his started when he was a baby. It just seems strange to go 20 years and then it happen.
