Talking EPO and regular cycles

One of the benefits of EPO is that it's supposed to regulate your cycles -- just posting to say that I think I may have some proof of this. Granted, my sample size is small (1, myself ), -- but:

I've been rubbing EPO oil onto my skin to help combat acne after coming off Dianette and other antiandrogens. Someone mentioned that EPO could be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin. If this is true, then it should be more powerful to apply it topically than orally, as up to a third of drugs taken orally are metabolised by the liver before they ever get to the general circulation.

Anyway, I stopped taking Dianette 17 days ago -- I'd been taking it for 6 years and lots of other anti-androgens -- so you'd expect that my system would need some time to get back into its natural rhythm. Plus which, I have never been regular -- it wasn't uncommon for me to go 6 mos w/o a cycle, and once I went over 18 mos. But this time, I'm pretty sure O'd EXACTLY on day 12 -- and I only stopped taking the pill 17 days ago!! I've probably never O'd at the right time before in my life (and I'm 35, so that's a good time stretch to look at).

Just wanted to share that -- fingers crossed that this isn't just a fluke!

ps -- my skin is still clear too! -- it started going spotty when I reduced the cyproterone acetate, but then cleared up again when I started applying the EPO

Cato,

I hope you're right about the EPO, but I just wanted to point out that many women experience one or more "normal" cycles, including O, just after coming off the pill. It may just be that rebound. I know I've used EPO for quite a while in the past without ever getting a reguar cycle.

My sister used to have irregular cycles and started taking EPO. She now has a period EXACTLY every 35 days. So this treatment can definitely work for some people for sure.

further update -- it's now day 24 and AF has started! That's gotta be "normal" right? If I'm having my first ever 28 day cycle?

I know you said katiwren that you can have a normal cycle after stopping the pill -- but this is totally unlike me -- I normally get really spotty whenever I try to stop the pill, and my skin is clear. I'm eating foods that would have given me cystic acne in the past, and my skin looks fine. The clear skin has to be a good sign.

And I'm still astounded that you can take the pill for 6 years and then come off and seem to have a normal cycle -- amazing!

Hello, glad to hear of your success. I was just wondering do you buy the EPO in a liquid form. I've seen it sold as capsules but never seen it as an oil that you rub on the skin.

I buy it from GNC, it's in the Women's Health section.

It comes as a pure oil, but I don't think the intention is that you're supposed to rub it into your skin. (ooops, I'm wrong -- just looked at the box that the bottle came in and it says "As well as being a useful addition to a healthy balanced diet, the oil can be applied directly to the skin").

edited as I missed that you were from the UK the first time!

I live in Bath -- moved from Swindon a couple of years ago, so it's luxury! (not to cast any aspersions on Swindon but... Bath is a lot prettier to look at )
