I have just started PCOS: A Womans Guide to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Colette Harris & Adam Carey. I'll let you know how I get on.
She has also got another book out called The PCOS Diet Book(How you can use a nutritional approach to deal with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) which also has a lot of good and positive reviews.
Has any one read these?
I've just purchased, about two weeks ago, the PCOS Diet Book. It was a real eye opener! I've known I've had PCOS for about 8 years now, but the only thing Dr's ever suggested was the Pill. And my body doesn't LIKE being on the Pill, the only thing it did is regulate my periods...but nothing else changed. I live in England now, but am from Michigan. Since living here I've had severe pain during sex, horrible period pains, moodiness, sleep problems and fainting/passing out. I'd been to specialists about the fainting, as it was happening in public, at work or when I was home alone. I told each and every Dr. about my PCOS....yet it was always tossed out as a reason for my fainting/pasing out. However....after reading The PCOS Diet Book, I've discovered that FAINTING is one of the possible symptoms. Hmmmm. I've beeng TRYING to follow the diet, but as I said I've only had the book just under two weeks. At this point, pretty much the only difference I see is the amount of times I use the loo! lol!
I like this book. It isn't just focusing on diet, and it explains what is going on inside your body as best as it can, and in a way I can totaly understand.
...and I really like it from what I've read so far. It seems to do a good job of explaining the technical aspects of what's going on with someone who has PCOS. I'm really interested in seeing if I can get my hands on a copy of the companion book about diet (I didn't even know there was one, I didn't see it at the store when I bought this book). Even though I don't seem to have a problem with insulin resistance, which I know is thought to be one of the main contributing factors to developing PCOS, I figure it couldn't hurt to try modifying my diet.
...and I love it. I feel like this book gave me the tools and knowledge I needed to start modifying my diet in a way to tackle some of my symptoms. It gives a pretty thorough explanation of why food and exercise is so crucial to those who have PCOS... not like we all don't already know that, but it goes pretty in-depth as to how certain foods affect different PCOS symptoms. There was also a chapter that gives an overview about supplements that I found to be useful.

I have this book and find it easy to read. The book is written in simple, laymens terms but lists each and every resource the authors have obtained thier information from. So, if you are like me, you really want solid proof of certain claims, you have it at your finger tips.

Another great book by Colette Harris and Theresa Cheung is "PCOS and Your Fertility". It has tons of great info.
I've read this too. Lots of dogeared pages! It's a great read.

Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition: Can What You Eat Affect Your Menstrual Cycles and Your Fertility?
Marilyn M. Shannon , February 28, 1999
Diet, vitamins and minerals for improved fertility.
The subtitle of Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition is, "Can What You Eat Affect Your Menstrual Cycles and Your Fertility?" The answer is a resounding yes! That positive answer actually comes from published research studies. My goal in writing this book is to transform the often hard-to-locate, fragmented, or ignored research in the area of nutrition and reproduction into practical, easy-to-implement strategies aimed at better cycles and improved fertility. So while the book is easy to read and use, you'll find it footnoted throughout with references, most from the research journals
