My doc says for a PCOS diagnosis you should have 2 things - clinical symptoms & ultrasound or biochemical indicators. You may not have all or even very many of the symptoms of PCOS but if a few are there & either an ultrasound showed cysts or your bloodwork levels were consistent with PCOS, then your doc can make a diagnosis. There are many disorders, especially hormonal, which may cause similar syptoms so you really need to have some lab tests to support the diagnosis.
Also, the hormone drugs used to treat PCOS should be safe although some women experience side effects. Many of the drugs work by supplementing a hormone that your body may not produce enough of, like progesterone. I don't know about Aurvedic specifically, but maybe someone else on this board knows more.
The best thing you can do is be your own advocate, become as informed as possible, & continue to ask questions until you find answers that satisfy you. There are so many wonderful women on here so you definitely have support here. Good luck!
