Thanks for the info Jorologrl.. I have been charting my basal body temp but have not ovulated on my own this year. Hopefully Clomid will do the trick. I think I am going to wait a month before I start taking it though. April is going to be a crazy month so May will be the perfect month to try. I am praying it will work the first month but I know I will have to be patient.

When you do start Clomid, join the Clomid Cysters thread in the TTC forum. It will be good to have the support while waiting to see if Clomid works and also to ask questions about the side effects and stuff. I was only on the thread a month since Clomid took for me so quickly, but they are great gals. And of course you can always ask me anything you want. When you get to 30 posts you'll be able to send private messages too. Good luck!!

HI,

I have not been officially diagnosed with PCOS (yet) either. I do want to find a DR. who can help me with this, but I have to chose carefully also, because I don't have health insurance. Last month I went to a OBGYN who told me there is no way to find out if you have PCOS or not. Ya, and that cost me over $100 to be insulted thus. I also have a friend who has been diagnosed, and she suggested I ask around here. SO- does anyone out there have a recommendation in the Los Angeles area? I'm in Pasadena, CA.
any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

Iloverain- Well I live in the Ventura County area so I don't know any good doctors near Pasadena. Also I did not have a good experience with the OBGYN that I saw so I would not recommend him to anyone. I am thinking that I am going to go back to my PCP and see if he will refer me to an endo. I hope you find an awesome dr. soon.

Don't think you are crazy! I went through the same thing for the last 8 years only to get a diagnosis just last week! I was told by numerous doctors that all I needed to do was spend a bit more time on the treadmill and everything would work out- the totally ignored all my other symptoms. It wasn't until I took matters in to my own hands: I did research on PCOS and on doctors and I finally found someone who knows what they are talking about. This doctor is a God send! I did realize later than sooner that you really have to be your own advocate because most doctors are not well read on PCOS. Hand in there!!

My story isn't too far off, I went off birthcontrol when I was 19, (i was marrying my boyfriend in a year) so we weren't worried if and oops happened... needless to say the only Oops that happened was me going from 155lbs to 260lbs in under a year! Now this did raise a little alarm in my mom, she sent me for tests but for every weight gaining option like thyroid and such... of course nothing came back! it wasn't till my husband and i were married for 3 years that we decided to get a lil more serious about baby making... No I have no Idea if in my chats it says that I have PCOS or not but when the gyno I was refered to told me a year after my first was born that I would be on Met the rest of my life that kinda had me thinking! Needless to say Merr lou it is going to take time! between my first visit with the gyno and the birth of my oldest, it was 1 year before my body got it's self sorted. He did his progesteron tests, (which showed that mine were non existant!) he put me on met right away because my testtosterone was almost higher than a mans! than after being on the met for 1 month ( with diarhea!,nausia!, cramps!,tiredness!) he put me on a birth control for 1 month (oo the side affects with that!) this bumped my progesteron in to action, needless to say the wait was well worth it! Felicity was born on august 4th, 2003! Your not crazy! If anything Doctors are the crazy ones for not doing thier homework! Mine ranks in there too! she has no idea what this is! Keep strong and don't give up! Never settle for the Doc's word cause they are human too and make big mistakes!!!! Kisses* and Luck* Angie*

Thanks for all the advice. I decided I needed to be more proactive about this and went back to my PCP today and told him about my awful experience with the OBGYN. He listened to me and ordered all the needed blood test to see if I have PCOS, even the glucose tolerant test to see if I am insulin resistant. I am going tomorrow bright and early at 8:30 to test. I am so not a morning person, especially on the weekend. But it will be good to know what my levels are and then to figure out the next steps. How is everyone doing? Hope all is well.

I know exactly what you all feel like. It was years of me telling drs that I knew something was wrong and they all said i was crazy. Everything was normal. But that was only because they put me on BCP's! I finally found my doctor a few years ago who diagnosed me. When I left that appointment, I cried. Both for learning I would have trouble ttc and because I finally got an answer and wasn't crazy!!

Anyone looking to find a doctor who will listen, find out which doctors are knowledgable about pcos. There's even a forum on s/c where you can try to find a pcos friendly doc in your area. But you are not crazy and keep strong. Don't let anyone tell you you're wrong in your concerns. Don't stop until you find a doctor who actually listens to you.

I had the same exact symptoms.
My doctor diagnosed me with PCOS when I was 13 and then I switched drs.
I had to TEACH my new dr what PCOS actually was. it was irritating.

my friends AND family thought I was just thinking it was in my head.
i became angry and even more angry when I found out.
It's hard but i'm not letting it run my life.

Good luck at your dr appointment.

So now I am just waiting to see the results of the blood test. I'll let you know what it says. In other news, I am having really bad cramps and feel so bloated. I am on day 73 of my cycle. Usually I bleed on day 71 so I am a little late, it is probably making me feel worse. I guess I might actually have to use the provera my dr gave to induce my period. Anyone ever use it? Does it make your period worse?

I use provera to bring on af. In fact, I'm on it right now. It doesn't make af any worse for me. If anything, it does seem lighter than when I was on bcp's. My doc won't let me go more than 6 weeks without af before starting provera, unless I get my bfp, that is!

Thanks Traceync. I think I will take the provera soon. I guess a part of me is thinking maybe, just maybe I am pregnant. I should take a test soon. In other news - my DH finally doesn't think I am crazy anymore. He is actually researching online about PCOS and becoming more sympathetic. It is nice. He even found a T-Shirt online that said "My wife has PCOS, what's my excuse?" I thought that was kind of funny because we are both overweight. He would never buy nor wear it though.
