Red face Everything is so confusing......

very upset..Met is not working, looking for alternatives..

Hello ladies,

I have been taking 2000mg of Met XR since November, I also changed to a low carb diet. My testostorone levels and DHEA S were checked and were still high, basically no change. I had an ultrasound and doc found no cysts. I felt he just brushed me off..:-( All other hormone levels came back normal.

I can deal with the physical manifestations, but the idea that the high levels of Testostorone and DHEA-S will have an impact in my fertility makes me so scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im getting married in 2 months, have no lost any weight and feel more depressed than ever. I want to start TTC in the next 3 months or so...

I found this site and I am considering trying the alternatives. I know everyone is different. But I was thinking of trying the cinnamon, vitex or pro-biotics??, B-6 and a prenatal..Is this a safe start? Or should I consider other supplements..(teas?)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks and lots of HUGS!!!!

Claudia

add slowly, to check for allergic reaction. I would start with an Omega 3 supplement, since it covers a range of PCOS associated probs, and the prenatal, since it is just a multivitamin geared to women. Good luck, and take care.

Do you exercise? Exercise can help reduce androgens, which will help with the testosterone and stuff. I'm on Met XR 1500mg, and haven't seen any changes in weight or symptoms, but I also do not exercise regularly. Met really just levels out the playing field since women with PCOS typically have more difficulty losing weight than women without PCOS.I agree with pp about the omega 3 and prenatals. Also, vitex does help regulate cycles (at least it did for me) and hormones, but you have to stop vitex once you become preggo. Good luck with everything!

that was going to be my suggestion. Cardio and especially strength training.

Thanks for all of your responses. I actuallay did join a gym and do the 30 minute circuit. I do admit Ive only gone 4 times in 3 weeks...I will add more cardio here at home. I will keep you posted. I went to the store tonight and got soe spearmint tea, cinnamon, B-12, and Magnesium. I will make an ppotment with my OB doctor and perhaps they can give me some prenatal vitamin as I will be TTC in a couple of months.(I've been feeling very fatigued).

I also checked my pressure and it was quite low 92/71. I usually have it about 103 but I am wondering if the MET had anything to do with it. Gosh, I have so many questions for my Endo this week..

Will keep you posted!!!!!!

Omega 3 is good for high blood pressure/cholesterol, and is great for depression. Natural sources = almonds, walnuts, salmon, cod, flax seeds.

If you're interested in the probiotics, there's a cyster, lachicarubia, who is very familiar with them and has some great stories about how they helped her get pg twice. I tried them, but it's more of a lifestyle change than just taking some pills. Yeah, if I was more serious about it, I would have done better, but it was really tough for me to cut out the carbs and other stuff that you need to (I know, I know, I'm weak!! ).

Definitely try to stick with the exercise and the prenatals, fish oil (or natural omega 3's), Vitex and cinnamon are all a good start (I replied to your post on the Vitex thread as well, but I forgot to mention that Vitex can take up to 6 months to start working (worked after the first month for me), so you might want to start it soon if you're planning on starting to TTC in about 3 months).

You might also look into vit D3. In studies they are having success using Vitamin D for PCOS as a natural replacement for Met to deal with insulin resisitance.

GOod luck!
