I know a month isn't that long, but it must seem like eternity...what are you doing to keep busy until then?
We need a Soulcysters countdown for you!
Congratulations! |

And where are you from? Why go outside your own county to adopt a child....innocent children EVERYWHERE need good families....just curious to see why you opted to leave your own country to do this!

We originally looked into domestic adoption and found an adoption attorney. Our experience with this attorney was really horrible, and we had found the domestic experience horrible. We had gone on to try two more IVFs (one with an egg donor) before we decided to go through with an International adoption because we didn't want to deal with the issues that our attorney scared us with.
Though we would LOVE to do Russia again, we are doing domestic this time. We have since learned that our lawyer wasn't really doing things the right way (he was legit, but really gave us a lot of bad advice) and found an agency our friends adopted through in the US.
We would also never consider the california foster system because it is a completely nightmare and still have friends 'stuck' in the system waiting to adopt a little boy who has been in their care for three years who they STILL can't adopt because of ridiculous rules, requirements and 'the system'.
Yes, there are children here that need homes, but you know what? Children are children, and they all deserve homes. It shouldn't matter where they come from and long as they have a family to love them.

We live in Ontario and our "CAS" (Childrens Aid Society) is in terrible shape...the children are being kept as wards of the province for way too long then being classified as "special needs" and the wait for an infant of a healthy nature is years long...
Our private system is not much better since we pay for these children to have babies and keep them by providing them with a monthly check....
We chose Ukraine ourselves over Russia just becuz of cost but the main reason we chose Ukraine is we have friends who have adopted Ukraine here and over there now. Even though Ukraine is unpredicatable we cant wait to go and create our family this way...
Maybe I dont have the answer to your question...
I just know we are doing what feels right to us in our hearts and I wouldnt change it for the world...our wee boy is waiting for us and dammit we are going to get him
Take Care !

Believe it or not, it scared us more than the prospect of going international. We, too, could have been misinformed however that's all water under the bridge now--we've made the decision to go to China and couldn't be happier or more excited about it!!
Perhaps we didn't pursue a domestic adoption as completely as we could have and who knows where we may end up if we go for #3!!
All I can say is that once we found the agency we are using now it was like our hearts pulled us to a little girl in China. We have 'that feeling' that our daughter is there waiting for us. It's hard to explain--but we just know we are doing what is right for our family.
BTW, Native, my BIL has been saying the same thing to me since July of last year. He still doesn't understand why we are going International so I'm used to the questions you're posing to us!

I can only speak about my case, and why my DH and I chose international over domestic. We are only 24 and 34 years old. We can't have children and wanted a child as young as possible. (at least for the first one) We looked into domestic adoption, and found that the foster system was one big mess. As for a private adoption, we were very fearful of a Birthmother changing her mind. We don't have alot of money to keep trying to adopt, so if the Birthmother changed her mind and we had adopted domestically, we would have lost all (or at least) most of the money we had put into that adoption. We then would not have been able to adopt again for a while (more than likely)
Another reason we chose international is because we had been praying for God to lead us to what he wanted us to do and due to some very strange happenings, we felt lead to Guatemala.
I hope this at least helps you understand alittle. I know I used to think the same thing about people who went outside of the country to adopt until I was in their shoes.

We had a lot of bumps while we were in Russia, especially having our court postponed for four days, but overall it was a good experience.
