Question Exercise routines

Wow, there are sooo many threads on here that I just don't have the time right now to go through them all. So, I hope this hasn't been discussed ad nauseum...

I was just wondering if some of you would like to share what exercise routine works best for you. Also, if there is anyone out there who does Pilates, what type aerobic exercise to you do with them?

I absolutely love Pilates but have a hard time with any aerobic exercise, besides walking. Now that it is getting colder, though, I know I'll find it hard to be motivated enough to go for a walk, so I need something I can do in my home. What works for you?

Thanks for sharing!

Default Good Thread!

What an awesome idea: post your exercise routine!

I get my exercise from yoga, pilates, snowshoeing, x-country skiing, belly dance, spinning, swimming and tae-bo.

I separate exercise into three categories based on exertion: light (yoga, pilates, calisthenics), moderate (bellydance, ballet, hula), and heavy (snow-shoeing, x-country, tae-bo). Everyday, I try to get at least 1/2 hr of the heavy exercise, 1 hr of the moderate exercis or 1 1/2 hrs of the light exercise, doing at least 1 segment of each a week. Hopefully, I can work my way up to getting at least 2 of the three sections in each day.

As for aerobic exercise to match your pilates, I usually go for dance or tae-bo. BUT, the better you get at pilates the more likely it is to become an aerobic exercise for you. Because, as you perfect the moves you'll be able to do them faster.

I have an elliptical which I bought at eBay. I use it at night when I am watching TV. (Trouble is, you really have to turn up the TV because it makes such noises...) It helps me because I get the feeling that I can relax and have fun during exercise. I work really long hours and have a demanding job so it is difficult for me to go to workout classes.

I love walking, too, and in summer I go for a brisk walk when I want an exercise. I live in a very touristy place where people come especially to see the scenery- I can get it for free while exercising. So this is some extra motivation.

I am pretty lazy, though - I admire snowbunny's routine!

In theory, my routine is 35-40 minutes of 'running' on my gazelle (kind of a cross between an elliptical and a cross country skier for anyone not familiar with it) in the morning and 30-40 minute pilates in the evening. I have two pilates tapes so I alternate, one of them uses body bands which adds some resistance as well.

I was doing really well for the past couple months until last weekend, now I'm trying to get back on track.

Oh, and I just bought some dumbells, so I'm doing a short workout with those 3-4 days a week as well.

In the summer/fall/spring I walk-hike for 1-1 1/2 hours instead of the gazelle. I much prefer being outside, but way too cold and windy this time of year.

I'm doing TaBoe tapes 4 days a week, and lifting weights 3 days a week.
Also thinking of taking up so Yoga as well to stretch out all the muscles, and hopefully get that "long & lean" look

Wanted to say thanks for motivating me! I have been faithfully lurking for 4 months now! I have been walking every day possible since then 2.25 miles either outside (I prefer this) or on my treadmill. After the 1st of the year I am going to add some pilates to my daily routine...any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions on aerobic exercise. I have a hard time getting motivated to do most any exercise, and I think this site is really going to help.

I have started doing Pilates 3 times a week for 20 to 30 minutes. I also have the Taebo tapes and a dance aerobics tape which I think I might start trying to throw into the mix for 2 days a week.

I do still have to take my dog for a walk every day, but with it being so cold now we don't walk as far or as long as the rest of the year.

I do Crossfit four or five times a week. It's a combination of olympic weight lifting, gymnastics conditioning and sprinting. I LOVE Crossfit - so much fun and each day is different. It's hard but, wow, do you ever see results. I'm also training for a half marathon so I also run three or four times a week as well. A couple of years ago, I couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded. So, there you go - just keep trying new things and having fun and you might be surprised to find that you're an athlete!

Default Crossfit and TTC

Bumbler, do you do crossfit during your two week wait? I have been doingcrossfit for 6 months and I love it.
However,I heard that strenuous exercise can interfere with implantation and now that I have the green light to TTC, I am scared to do all the bumpees and boxjumps and heavy lifting after ovulation?

I dont know if your crossfit gym is tightknit like mine, but I feel like I have to come up with some excuse for holding back because we normally push ourselves really hard with the goal being to be totally wiped out after the WOD. Of course I will tell the trainers when I am pregnant, but I dont want to say anything now.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Our gym is very tight knit but still welcoming of newcomers- just a great group of people and it's amazing the difference a support network has on reaching my goals. I'm not trying to get pregnant - we've decided not to have kids - so working out during various times in my cycle isn't a concern with me. I know when I work out, my cycles are way more regular so I would guess that it's not going to hurt your chances but I've never researched it before. Sorry I can't be more help!
