Thumbs up Exercise in your home

Do any of you have a treadmill or weight machine, or eliptical machine or anything in your house...If so do you use it?

My mom has an eliptical machine that she will give me, I am just wondering ifI will be as liable to use as I am to go to the gym...and I dont like to go to the gym...is it a mental thing or what? I just dont ever feel like my hair looks good, or my outfit is right for the gym? I would love to use the machine in my house but wonder if I will find some excuse not to use it either?

Any suggestions would be great! THANKS

I worked in a gym for 2 years, and I absolutely loathed that atmosphere. I found being among strangers totally demotivating, and I wasted so much time having to wait in line for the machines! I realized if I had just skipped getting in my car and gone for a run or a rollerblade, I'd have been home an hour sooner and would have worked harder. So I totally understand your predicament.

People rolled their eyes at me when I told them I was working out away from a gym, as though I would never stay motivated otherwise. But I'm living proof that for the cost of a pair of Nike Cross Trainers, you can lose weight without setting foot in a gym. I lost 50 pounds and reached my goal weight in Sept after 2 years. I'm harder to please than any personal trainer I know.

So stick to your guns. Gyms are not the be all and end all, and you can still have effective workouts as long as you find something you like. So make sure you really enjoy your Mom's elliptical trainer. Enjoyment is key to whatever you do.

All the best!

I mostly workout at home too. I do have a gym membership, but I often feel very demotivated and uncomfortable working out there (seeing my fat jiggle in the mirror while next to perfectly toned women is NOT helpful!) so I mostly use the gym for the steam shower and swimming pool.

I don't own much exercise equipment (a balance ball, a yoga mat, some dumbells and a pilates reformer), so I usually do exercise videos. I get my cardio from snowshoeing and x-country skiing during the winter.

It is very important to find something that you really enjoy, it'll be much harder to stay motivated if you don't enjoy what you're doing.

Working out at home is GREAT, in fact there's a whole community of women who do it at Video Fitness - of course it's mostly workout with videos, but it might be helpful for you!

I LOVE exercising at home rather than a gym!

Where else can you get up at 5.45am and scrape your hair back into a ponytail with a big t shirt and tracksuit bottoms and no make up on and just start exercising for an hour before work without having to arrange babysitters; transport; etc.

I have a collection of exercise videos and an exercise bench and weights. I also walk when the weather is okay and the lights are night/at the weekends.

with exercise videos you can take part in aerobics; yoga; ballet; tae-bo; belly dancing; weight training; pilates.... all in your own home with no travelling times!! and all at your own pace too!

I would recommend home exercising to anyone.
