Points: 593.17 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 593.17 | Exhaustion/ Tiredness Help! Hi All,
I started Metformin 1.5 weeks ago. My doctor put me on 2 doses of 500 mg each everyday.
I feel generally nauseous during the day and very bloated and gassy.
However, my biggest problem is exhaustion and achiness. I feel very tired through the day. All I feel like doing is going back to sleep. Is this normal? If yes, how long before this goes away (Will it ever go away!!)?
Also, should I have started on a 500 mg dose rather than 1000mg?
Also, I am on a low glycemic index diet. I have a shake for breakfast and lunch. Is it possible that this is causing the exhaustion/ tiredness?
Any thoughts/ suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks,
pat |

This time around I started on 500 mg for 4 days, then 1000 mg for 4 days and then my highest dose of 1500 mg. It doesn't matter if you start 500 or 1000 mg, still the same side effects I think.
I think it has to do with blood suger being low, so I definitely think only having a shake for breakfast and lunch is (partly) causing this feeling. If you have a small meal every 2-3 hours you blood suger is on a more constant level. If I go without food for a long time (more than 3 hours) I get very dizzy and feelings of exhaustion. If I eat regularly, I'm OK. Last time these 'side effects' went away after about a month. I usually eat a slice of dark bread (dont know the word in english sorry, good carbs anyway), and maybe some fruit.
Good luck! |

You may have to increase your calorie intake on metformin, because all of a sudden you body is able to utilize glucose so you become depleted of glucose more quickly.
Also, take your dose at night before you go to bed. This is what I have been doing, if I didn't I would not be able to drive. |
