Default Experiences coming off Spiro please

Just wanted to know if anyone has had experieces they'd rather not repeat coming off Spiro? Did your excess hair get worse than before? Skin problems? Anything? I had problems coming off Diane 35 and I'm just starting Spiro but want to know what I'm getting into. Any comments are appreciated

Hi there,

I actually just stopped taking Spiro last week and have not had any noticeable side effects whatsoever. However, I did not have any effects of being on it either - it did not help my hair loss at all.

I think that you shouldn't have any troubles getting off it (although I do highly recommend that you only do so with your doctor's approval).

Hello Goldilocks
I was on Spiro for years and when I came off years ago..Alot of years going on .(lol)But anywayz,I didn't notice any changes immediately afterwards or @ anytime after.I really don't think there or any major concerns coming off it.I'm not 100% though. But I had been on and off Spriro for years, and never remember my doc advising of anything nor anything happening..Hope this helps...Have a blessed day

Hey Goldilocks..

I did a little Spiro experiment recently and I was pretty upset with the results of coming off the drug. I was amazed how much it did for me. After about 5 days or so off the drug the cystic acne came back in full force all over my body, mostly on my legs and my face. The hair didnt specifically come back with avengance in that short period of time but the skin on my face was starting to get much more sensitive to the hair growth. My face was more red and irritated as well. I had some headaches in the first week and a few leg cramps (these also happened to me when I initially started the drug so I was familiar with what they were).

FWIW, I started the experiment because my sex drive was severely compromised with the drug and I was curious (while my pharmacy got more in stock) if it would come back.. sure enough it did, but I couldnt handle what happened to my skin, it felt horrible.

All in all I realized how much the drug does for me that I didnt notice on a daily basis AND how bad my skin was before taking it! Im still upset about my pitiful libido (sigh), but I just have to suck it up and deal with it

Good luck!

Actually, I'm much happier off the Spiro than on. I don't think it helped my hairiness that much, and it gave me HORRIBLE heartburn. I don't miss it at all.

I was on spiro for about a week and a I felt like I was about to die...constant nausea and malaise...no energy...just ick

and then I read about a possible link between spiro and breast cancer and I flushed the rest of my supply down the toilet and have not looked back.

Armastama, Do you think your acne was worse than before you went on Spiro or just the same? I'm trying to figure out whether these drugs have a rebound effects when you come off them. If our bodies are balanced like a pendulum and PCOS's are naturally a little unbalanced and Spiro etc balances us out, when we go off them I wonder if the pendulum swings back too far before we settle back at the slightly unbalanced position. I think this was what happenned when I came of Daine 35. I hope that metaphor makes sense!

The only problem I had with going off Spiro was for some reason it made me have AF midcycle. So I ended up having two 13 day cycles -- once when going off Spiro, and another when I went off bcp at what would've been the end of the cycle.

Yes, the things it was controlling (acne, facial hair, head hair loss) have returned, but slowly. Actually... my head hair is fine so far, but I'm sure it will eventually start coming out again.

Thats what I was wondering... if things will go more out of whack than before or just go back to the same. I'm not on spiro but on the pill and am sooo afraid of going off of it. I have to sometime I suppose.

It totally made sense.. hmm. I dont know if it came back worse than before, I didnt wait around that long to find out. I was back on it in less than two weeks. It was very eye opening for me, I remember how sensitive my skin was before intellectually, but when it happened again I was like "WOW, this sucks! where are my pills?"

FWIW, I had to go to the doc today for a UTI and I had them up my dosage to the max, 200 mg/day to see if it helps all that much more. My doc and I both wondered if the lack of the medication in my system threw my urinary tract out of whack so much to give it an infection because the spiro is a diueretic. Ive been very satisfied with what the 100 mg/day has done for me, maybe doubling that will make me doubly satisfied.. just probably not in bed hehehe
