Hi, i been tormented by itchy scalp for ages and have been trying all sort of treatments but been trying to move off artificial ones, so actually been using CO for hiar styling, its awesome, no smell, great shine...i thought it would help with my SD (had it for around 10 years), but i guess im not applying enough on the scalp. Question is whats the best method for massging CO into the scalp and what process & shampoo do you use to wash out? I've tried using a few natural soap bars like 'Beauty and the Bees' , they leave my hair feeling fantastic, but dont balance out the SD, but i worry most shampoos are an irritant so i cautious.
Also has anyone tried an apple cider vinegar rinse post shampoo and find it works?

Hi,
I would like to share how I apply CO to scalp.....
I warm up CO a little bit and then dip a small cotton ball in to it and run the cotton ball through the scalp .I repeat this till I am satisfied that I have spread CO evenly through the entire scalp......
hope this helps....
I have used products with CO in them for years. It's great and adds moisture that I need for my scalp (African American hair is MUCH more brittle and our scalps are more dry as well so the extra oil is a life saver). It makes my hair soft and makes it easy to lift the scaly crap from my scalp. I'm happy everyone is trying it.
Another to try is Peanut Oil. I am having better luck with that directly on my scalp and then I use CO for my hair. It's even thinner in texture so not as greasy. Luckily i'm not alergic to peanuts!
I'm on a dog forum a lot, and members there talk about using coconut oil on their dogs to help with their skin issues, from dry skin to odd bumps that won't go away with meds...it even helps heal the dogs dry, cracked paws! amazing stuff. I keep meaning to buy some.
My aunt told me about CO this last spring - I'm hooked! I love to cook with it, put it in my tea, on my sandwiches, and I've used it on acne with great results.
I had NO idea that itchy scalp was a medical concern! I just though it was me. I've been dealing with itchy, flakey scalp and itchy ear canals since I was a child! It is really embarrasing - nothing like always finding your fingers in your hair, unable to stop scratching!
I'll be trying CO on my scalp, definitely!
So, what do you do about the itching in the ears??

I have had the condition of seboorrhea dermititus since childhood as a baby it started with cradle cap and continued with adult hood. I have been going to the dermatologist since my teens and been a chronic sufferer for about the last 20 years. Seborrhea Dermititus is no joke especially in the winter months...constant oily flaking, itchy inflamed scalp just a tip of the ice berg(ears, nose area). I finally do not feel alone in this SD madness. Summer months is a good season for SD suffers. I have tried multiple medicines thru out the suffering....some works for a while, then you try some thing else when the previous use fails. I have tried many different shampoos. I even tried eating right hoping that will help with the out breaks of SD...NO!! It was not until recently that I googled natural remedies for SD as my mother used pine tar on my scalp when I little girl( stinked really bad) and it worked so I wanted to back to using natural products for my SD problem. I ran across the coconut oil uses for skin orders, natural moisturizers, even for cooking, and helps for dieting uses as well(flushes fat from your systems). I have been using the coconut oil for the past 2 weeks and have never seen my scalp look so normal and clear of the SD. I will continue to use the coconut as it is a life saver for my skin , hair, and scalp. I absolutely love it!! I can not believe that something so simple and the oil is light. The oil my doctor gave made my hair really greasy and oily. The oil even helps for my dieting purposes also. So to the SD suffers, Go get and use Coconut Oil.... Thank God for the SDSC(SD Sufferers Club) I am glad to share...please continue and be blessed
I've been using Extra Virgin Coconut oil for the past 3 weeks or so and I am completely happy with the results, I use it on my whole body as a body lotion before going to sleep and I have seen improvement on how my skin looks, I am also taking it as a daily supplement, I just simply drink 1 tablespoon a day, Coconut oil has so many anti-bacterial, anti-fungi properties, I normally get Boiling cysts around my arm pits and by just simply rubbing Coconut oil around the cyst for 2 to 3 days the boiling cyst goes away and the pain that goes along with it... I recommend everybody to give it a try. Start with a teaspoon at first if you want to take it as a daily supplement, If you start with a higher dosage, it will give you the runs, Coconut oil is supposed act as a detox agent, getting rid of all the bacteria attached to our digestive system from all the junk food and bad stuff that we eat on a regular basis, I also read that it can help regulate sugar levels and hormonal problems as well. IF you guys are still not sure JUST GOOGLE IT...
I accept the challenge. However, I wont be using it in my scalp as I don't have issues with it anymore. ACV sorted it out. Also, I'm Indian and have had co put in my hair since I was a kid and I truly hate the smell and the feel of the greasiness. Dont worry ladies, I'm sure your experience will be different as we (my bro and I) had to wear the oil in our hair all day, it was SO gross. And the smell made me feel sick, uck. But my dad still uses it daily and he has a thick head of hair, which is why we use it. Indians believe it creates a thick, long, head of hair, so you can easily find it at any Indian store in the beauty/haircare section.
Anyway, I'm going to try sleeping with it on my eyebrows, ridge of my nose, and behind the ears. Maybe even forehead too. Will post back with results!

A baby board that I'm on also uses it for their babies' scalps that are really really dry. Works like a charm!
Ok, slight setback. Went to one of the local indian stores and the one co i bought has henna in it. While that's all good and dandy if i were putting it in my scalp, it sucks for me because i don't want any more darkness on my face, my AN is enough, thank you. I guess I will have to use it in my hair or pass it off to my dad.
Will be going to Little India tomorrow (Artesia, California) so I can grab some non-henna'd CO and start this experiment.
Funny enough, I'm kind of more motivated by the fact that is has worked with canine skin problems. hehe.

Coconut oil has worked wonders for me. hard to beleive something as natural and simple as coconut oil can be a solution to the problem. highly recommend trying this. also stay away from harsh chemicals like nizoral 2%, aggravates your scalp and ruins your hair, and is only a very temporary solution
Hey, i have sufferd from DS all my life but have never controlled it. when i was younger i sufferd from cradle cap and wore off for a couple of years then came back. im now 20 and am losing hair because of it, i have thinning hair on the scalp only in the areas affected mainly by the crown. the effected area is thick and prevents my hair from breathing which is very annoying. i have been using t-gel for awhile with minor results and jojoba oil which keeps my scalp from drying out but no major results either. i am going to order some 100 % natural virgin coconut oil and see how it goes .. i will post a reply in a few weeks!!
