Anybody else had to deal with this? Tips, suggestions? Thank you in advance!

A couple of days ago, my hair waved up after coming out of the shower. I didn't think it was odd since I have some natural wave in my hair, and in humid weather it will wave esp in back. However, it has never stayed after sleeping on it. It usually droops just a few minutes later. My hair is fine, pretty thin, and mostly straight. But, the wave hasn't gone away, my hair is spiral curled in some spots and it's like I have twice as much hair as usual. I have no idea what to even do with it. I haven't had curly hair since 1995 when I got a perm! I keep going to the mirror to look at it because the change is amazing. I'm 31, was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago. I've tried many different treatments since then - birth control pills, metformin, and lately, I've just been drinking spearmint tea which increases progesterone and helps balance hormones. I did use progesterone cream to get a cycle last month since I've been noticing vaginal dryness more lately and that seems to help with it. I searched for prog cream + hair changes and didn't find much, but I've read that testosterone increasing as we age can make hair curlier. I'm not complaining - I love the volume, but I feel like there may be a hormonal link and wondering if the increase in vaginal dryness has anything to do with it. It's actually been about a year that I've been getting that, but it's more often lately. I keep reading that it's a common thing for cysters to get. The weather HAS been weird so maybe it has nothing to do with this at all. The ticks are crazy around here - have never seen this many esp so early in the year. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Hi Guys,

I'm taking 200 mg spiro. In the past, I did very well on 100 mg spiro in the past, but increased when I stopped bc for a month, and since then I never went back down. Since I've been on the 200 ive had mild hair loss, but definite thinning and a really irritated scalp problem.

So I go to my doctor regarding my continued hair problems last week. She does a hormone panel. My testosterone showed up as less than 3%, which is basically what they write when it is unmeasurable. The normal range said 8-48 (but I'm sure something as low as 8 wouldn't be considered normal) When I first got dianosed with PCOS by testosterone was in the 90s!!!

Anyway, I'm concerned, because I've read that you need testosterone to be converted into estrogen. No estrogen = not good for hair. I'm really worried that knocking out ALL the testosterone in my body may actually be DAMAGING my hair. BUT- I am worried to lower the spiro at the same time...increased testosterone is obvioulsy a problem as well.

P.S.- my Dr told me she thought it might help a lot to decrease the Spiro but this was only after I suggested it TO HER. So, I'm kinda lost here.

THOUGHTS??

Hey there. So i was considering the possibility of buying another home laser hair removal device or trying to opt for something else. I have hair inhibitors and what not here but i don't think they're working. Hairycure is touted not as a hair inhibitor but as something that stimulates naturally baldness but cutting off the blood supply to the hair root and basically de-activating it or rendering it useless. Now, i'm a big skeptic, and for £47 for bottle and postage it is NO pocket money to say the least. The £39.99 bottle is only a "trial" and it could cost hundreds to do your whole body, but surely this is better than no cure?

The product is from india i believe and i could only find reviews on their website translated to english (of course they're all good, they get to pick and choose) but also has a 90 day money back guarentee and the few english reviews i found had the biggest praise for the oil.

You'd think by 2013 there'd be a cure, right? Or at least a solution to excess hair? I just wondered if anyone here had given it a go because i think with my next pay cheque i'll buy a trial kit. Or would it be more worth while investing in a laser, like the Tria x4 or silk'n flash? I don't want to be zapping forever which is the problem as results for the last 9 months haven't been thrilling.

Anything to offer? Would you try hairycure? Have you tried it? Would you give it a shot?

Can anyone who uses it, or has used it let me know how it has been for them, particularly on the face? Thank you. :)

I don't have money for laser treatments or electeolosis, an epilator is the most painful thing ever, I can't reach it all to wax (but I wax my tummy) and all the doctors I have seen tell me "its OK, it is the way God made you". I know god made me this way, but its embarrassing being a woman with all this man hair :( I won't even let my husband of 13 years see me naked anymore, I feel like I'm becoming a man!
Please tell me some solutions. I've seen all 4 docs in my town and they don't believe in Spiro, or other medications because they can cause cancer. Please help me!!! Thank you

Not bad on the body but quite noticeable on the face. Gets me down quite a bit! Currently on a short course of Norethisterone to encourage a bleed as my womb lining was very thickened (I'm v. irregular) and off to the docs today to talk about the pill/meds to regulate my menstruation.
Have noticed that supplements seem to play a big part in lots of people's management of PCOS and was just wondering if anyone could share a couple of supplements available in the UK that I could try that you've noticed an improvement in hairyness whilst using them.

I'd really appreciate any help, my self-esteem isn't all that great.

Thanks guys

I'm currently on Metformin and Clomid and taking the following supplements:
-folic acid
-calcium + Vitamin D
-Fish oil
I already eat a fairly healthy/low carb diet and get plenty of exercise. I have mostly cut out caffeine and alcohol too. Other than thinning hair my other pcos symptoms are infrequent periods and mild acne.

Has anyone ever heard of using lavender oil and tea tree oil on the skin for a treatment for idiopathic hirsutism?! This was the first time I ever heard of it!

I wrote a pretty nice article on my hirsutism blog about the study done in Italy to compare 12 hairy girls with lavender oil and tea tree oil on their affected areas to 12 hairy girls with a placebo.

The 12 with the oil mix experienced some success.

I've only heard of lavender in some ayurvedic medicines but that's it. I don't know how effective those medicines are.

So, has anyone ever heard of or tried this?
