Hello All,

My doctor says nothing can be done for a year while i try to concieve naturally. My testosterone levels are high and have had hair fall since teenage. I was on 5%minoxidil and stopped now to TTC.

I dont want my hair fall to get worse. I want to try to reduce my testosterone using natural methods like herbs and accupuncture.
I dont know if that will stop further hair fall ?

I live in the San jose area in CA and would be really greatful if you could pass on any naturopathy or accupuncture experts whom you have been consulting for PCOS in particular.

thanks a lot !!!!

Fertility statues?

So I was looking into the more sacred and spiritual side of TTC and I found SO MANY different kinds of fertility statues from SO MANY different tribes all over the world I figured either the simple answer A) humans value fertility no matter who or where they are or B) Fertility statues have been made for century's for a reason, they work.

Even if they don't do anything but sit there and look like a scary big va-jayjay
like this one

Wouldn't just seeing it make you feel a bit better. The va-jayjay god's of old are looking down on your BD with pride or something. I'm sure on some basic level it should ease a woman. What do you think? Any good stories?

Hi, i found out in Sept 09 i had PCOS, due to absent AF so that and a few cysts on my ovaries is my only symptoms. Im slim, normal hormone levels, no acne etc so its just the ovulation and AF im lacking. From Sept i have took vitamin b complex, agnus castus and folic acid - (just incase as i am ttc) I have recently started taking vitamin d & calcium and evening primrose oil along with them. I was just wondering is this to much to take togather? I would do anything to ovulate myself, i am currently waiting on my appointment for clomid although was told i could be waiting 9 weeks so i am keen to try anything that will help me naturally in the meantime.

I recently came across a tea that I read might be useful in helping with PCOS and menstration. Has anyone else taken it or heard of it? If so any success? I did order some, and its pretty tasty, and kinda nostalgic for me cause it originates from my mother's home country of Ecuador. I have only been taking it for a month, and did get my period last week, not too heavily, but a noticeable one.

Morning ladies!

I know there have been some threads about Symplex F on here in the past. It's interesting, though -- it seems that people who advocate holistic healing (herbs instead of birth control pills) endorse Symplex F. But it is made of cow hormones and uteri! So how is that any different than bcp? Maybe they're real hormones, but it's still supplmenting your body with hormones instead of reminding it how to make its own.

Anyone know more about this?

Lean PCOS and Alternative solutions, Newbie - Please advice

Hi Ladies,

I'm a newbie at this and would like to thank all of you for this great website. I am trying to regulate my cycle, or at least just get one the natural way without using drugs to induce.

Please take a look at my info/story:
Age 28, 129lbs, 5'4, Not TTC yet - just to regulate my cycle
Regular periods entire life, was on and off BC the last 7 years. Ultimately stopped BC on January 1, 2009 (because I was moody all the time and don't love the idea of drugging my body).

First cycle since off BC - Mid March 09, 2.5 months no cycle - very unusual for me. Went to the GP, she considered pcos but said I don't fit the norm; I had no acne at the time and was not overweight. She referred me to an obgyn anyway.
March to July 09 - no cycle, my acne really started to develop on my face and back. I never had acne in my life, not even as teenager. Finally my long awaited appt at obgyn came up in July, she did tests and 2 weeks later brought me in and diagnosed me with PCOS based on my LH to FSH ratio, LH 18: FSH4. She also said i had slightly elevated testosterone. She said to take BC to which I said No thank you. Prescribed 10 days of Prometrium to induce my cycle, after 2 weeks of starting prometrium got AF, in August 09.
After Diagnoses I just started reading and all I got was information on overweight cases, but decided to do some acupuncture for couple months and cut unhealthy eating habits. In early October seeing no sign of AF and more acne did another round of Prometrium and got AF in late October. I am scheduled to see an endo in mid January 2010, that specializes in pcos research, Dr. Dunaif - Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. In the mean time I just want to keep trying to regulate my cycle and symptoms the healthy, natural way. So please give me some advice on what supplements I should take as a lean pcos person.

10.26.09 - Started taking Dchiro - 1,200mg/day in the morning. My skin was ok for couple weeks and then recently started acting up again, still same areas cheeks, jaw in my face and upper back.

Current diet:
Caffeine: I know I should cut out caffeine, but it has been very hard for me to do that - drink a cup of day.
Dairy - just love it, I love a healthy shredded wheat cereal in the morning with 2% milk, I eat Greek non fat yogurt almost every day and also love my cheese, usually Greek feta cheese or fresh mozzarella.
Bread - love it, but have started removing it from diet. I have been doing more pasta lately, thinking it will help.
Fish and meat - I will have them 3 times a week for dinner usually.
Alcohol - occasional glass of red, 1-2/week.

Exercise routine:
Elliptical 40min - 2x /wk.
Pilates /yoga 1hr - 2x /wk
Don't drive, just use public transportation - so good amount of walking in the city.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to include as much info and vent a little. So please please, can you help :hail: by suggesting some alternative supplements to get my AF coming naturally. Should I add other supplements to the Dchiro? Or remove it?

Any success stories with alternative remedies for Lean PCOS ladies?
Thanks in advance :tiphat:

Help Please!!!!

Hey everybody! I am new to this site and I have already learned so much!! Maybe, a little too much as I have now confused myself!! lol

My story is this...I am 29 years old and my DH is 28. We got married in July 2006 and (surprisingly) immediately got pregnant. Unfortunately, we miscarried at 8 weeks. I was diagnosed with PCOS in January 2007 and was absolutely devastated! My DH and I were adament about forging ahead and doing everything possible to TTC. My doc started me on Met for 6 months and it didn't really seem to do anything. I wasn't O'ing and I hadn't had a mensus since the miscarriage. After reviewing my BBT charts, my doc agreed to start Chlomid. I completed 4 rounds of Chlomid and my life started to spiral out of control. I was a huge mess! I was moody and emotional and alienated myself from everyone. Subsequently, my DH and I decided to separate. I am happy to say that we are back together, working things out, rebuilding our foundation, and getting back on the road to happiness!

I am trying to be proactive about my PCOS. Although we are not currently TTC, I would like to try and get my body on track (O'ing and regular mensus) so that I am ready when we decide to try again. DH and I are pretty adament about not doing Chlomid again unless absolutely necessary. I have read and learned so much from previous threads about various supplements. I have done some reasearch and know the benefits of DCI/Inositol, Choline, Cinnamon, NAC, NPC, Saw Palmetto, Biotin, Vitex/Femaprin, etc. However, I don't know which ones I can take at the same time and which ones will counter act eachother. I don't want to defeat my purpose and I have no idea where to start! So, if someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Any suggestions as to which ones I should start first???

Thank you so much for all your support!

Does cinnamon work like metformin?

I have read on here and been told by a few people that cinnamon is an alternative to metformin.

On other forums i have read that some women were pg within weeks of taking metformin.

Will cinnamon have this same affect? And is it possible to get to much cinnamon through supps and powdered in food?

I just started taking 2000mg of cinnamon a day.

(i know meds work different from person to person)

TIA!

DCI not working at 10 weeks! Article might explain why..?

I've been using DCI for more than 10 weeks and NOTHING. I had not had a period since April and then ovulated immediately after starting the DCI, BUT nothing since then... I'm losing faith quickly and reluctant to spend more money since my supply is running low.

I assume Im one of those women for whom DCI does not work. I just read a study this morning that claimed that there may be a FUNCTIONAL problem releasing DCI in certain women with PCOS, and not a simple deficiency... so supplementing with DCI may not resolve issues. But they claimed that Metformin mediated the RELEASE of DCI and so may help.

wont let me post link, but here is a snippet:

Insulin-Stimulated Release of D-Chiro-Inositol-Containing Inositolphosphoglycan Mediator Correlates with Insulin Sensitivity in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

"To directly assess the effect of administration of DCI on insulin sensitivity in PCOS, we conducted a randomized controlled trial in which women with PCOS took oral DCI or placebo for 6 weeks. Insulin sensitivity was determined by the frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance test (FSIVGTT) and minimal model of Bergman at baseline and end-of-study. Unfortunately, the study was terminated prematurely because of a sudden unavailability of the study medication. Nonetheless, as reported in the present paper, inspection of the results yielded several novel observations. First, no improvement in insulin sensitivity was noted in the women who had received DCI. Second, DCI-IPG release did not improve in several women in the DCI group, suggesting that these women suffered from a functional defect in DCI-IPG release rather than from a simple nutritional deficiency of DCI. Thirdly, regardless of group assignment, women in whom DCI-IPG release improved also seemed to demonstrate an improvement in insulin sensitivity.Based on these findings, the data from both the DCI and placebo groups were combined to test the new hypothesis that an increase in the release of bioactive DCI-IPG is associated with an improvement in insulin sensitivity in women with PCOS."

I have not tried Metformin yet, am petrified of the side effects and was hoping to fix this the natural way, but now I wonder if I should give it a shot.

Im hoping to hear from some of you who have NOT had results with DCI... have you tried Metformin with success?

Thanks

Ok so i have a history of irregular cycles since i was 14(am 30 now). I went off the pill in March because it was giving me problems and my period has yet to come back. I have been on herbs(femaprin) for 3 months now but i am wondering if its just not enough. My friend does herbs and she told me to keep taking the femaprin and use some NPC for 14 days to get it started. I dont know what to do. I have also had other friends tell me to just go to the dr and get Metformin or Provera. I dont want to give up on the Femaprin since its only been 3 mo but i am just really wanting to get my period started NOW so i can feel better. ADVICE PLEASE:sigh:

Using Shaklee Products to Control PCOS

Hi All,

I have suffered with PCOS for all of my adult life and have seeked the best help from the medical profession. I was taking all the top drugs out there including metformin and it was not helping me out at all. In fact, I was on so many perscriptions I was getting sicker and taking over $1,000 a month worth of meds.

In April 2007 a friend introduced me to Shaklee. I decided to give their products a chance and go the alternative route. I started taking the Shaklee products and eating organically. Two years later I am the healthiest I have ever been. I have lost 90lbs. and no longer need to take any perscriptions. Shaklee might not be right for everyone, but it worked for me and I want to pass the information along incase someone else wants to try it.

The products helped me out so much I decided to become a distributer so I can help others achieve their wellness goals. Shaklee in no way cures PCOS (there is no cure for PCOS that I know of), but it does make the symptoms a lot better. If you have questions about my experience please do not hesitate to email me and you can learn more about my experience with Shaklee by visiting my website (inspiringhealthnow.com) and clicking on "about me."
