Hi! My name is Casey. I am 27 and I have been TTC since 08/08. I am 5'7" 139 lbs. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 months ago while undergoing fertility testing. According to my RE, I don't have any out of whack hormones, but I am anovulatory, I have absent AF, and my pelvic u/s was characteristic of PCOS with lots of semi-mature follicles.

I am currently taking Clomid to try and induce ovulation. I did 50mg for CDs 5 - 9, and went back for a CD 12 u/s. The u/s showed two medium sized follicles (15mm). I went back for a follow up u/s yesterday which showed one medium sized follicle (15 mm), and three large follicles (>22mm). My doctor thinks I will ovulate in the next few days, but I have yet to see an LH surge.

I am nervous but excited about this cycle. My husband travels full time for work, so timing TTC is very hard. He is home right now until after Thanksgiving, so this is probably our best shot at getting pg unless we move on to IUI.

Thanks for listening!

Hi everyone,

I am so frustrated and was wondering if anyone else had the same thing and could offer any suggestions.

I am 5ft6" weight 9 1/2 st (BMI 22), I exercise regularly and eat healthily (lots of vegetables, no red meat, limited dairy, no refined carbs). I have been taking met and cyproterone acetate for about 7 years but even on the meds cannot get my testosterone below 2 nmol/l.

I decided to try and come off the CAs (family history of cancer etc so would be good if I could), with disasterous results. My testosterone levels shot up to aroun 4 nmol/l (I don't appear to have any tumour etc so think is just pcos-related) despite exercising every day (usually running between 8 and 10km) and sticking to my diet. It isn't low low carb as I do occasionally have pasta or sandwiches (I work really long hours) but definitely medium to low. During the 4 months I was off CAs I developed terrible hirustism all over my body (I am blonde but these are thick dark hairs) which I can't now get rid off, and awful acne all over my face and back that was completely unrelenting (but has cleared up no back on CAs).

I am so depressed, as if I can't control my hormones now it doesn't look good for ever getting pregnant (not that that is an issue, am single and now feel like such a monster that I'm not really going out except for work or to see girl friends).

Anyone found anything that works?

Thanks so much.

I was diagnosed PCOS in august this year, My blood tests came back normal but I have cysts on ovaries and go months without periods (not had one for 7 months now). My BMI is 22, Im currently eating a low GI diet and other than walking i don't exercise. I do have a lot of weight in my middle, 30" waist. I suffer low blood sugar i think this is related to the food i eat as in the morning after fasting my blood sugar is normal. If I go 2 hours between meals though it drops really low. The low GI diet is helping it. Is this a symptom of IR? Im so confused by it all. In a way I wish I was overweight and therefore diagnosed IR as the dr even said to me I dont need to worry as Im thin. But least if I was overweight Id be given metformin which migh make me ovulate. Im just v confused and dont know where to get answers. Im nearly 31 and worry ill never be able to have a baby :(

Greetings,

I was diagnosed with PCOS in March. My BMI is fine, which makes me believe I am in the thin-set group. I'm responding to clomid but the road to pregnancy has been bumpy and pretty emotional. I will be doing my first IUI in December.

I was wondering if there were any other thin-set PCOS gals that might want to connect in the San Jose / San Francisco Bay Area? I'm interested in comparing notes on local doctors and treatments, tests, etc.

Please let me know if you are interested. I live in San Jose.

Thank you!

Hi! I'm new to the site. I was just diagnosed with PCOS last week. It is really wonderful to find such great people to help with all my questions. My DH and I are TTC. I meet with my DR next Thursday and will get her opinion on what meds to take. I have heard some are not as good for thin cysters. I read the posts on Clomid. I am quite thin. Any advice?

Hello Thin Cysters,

I am a "new" thin cyster because I thought I was overweight. I have always been a very fit person, but when I was diagnosed with PCOS I had shot up to 145 in about one month (gained about 20lbs).

Anyway, I just had my Body Fat measured and I am only 18% body fat! Yay!!! But the thing is... I still look fat. I knew I had some water weight, but didn't realize I had THAT MUCH! I am puffy and fluffy :-(

Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone overcome the water retention? How did you do it?

Finally, has anyone NOT been able to lose the water weight even with diet and exercise? I would like to know now so I don't get my hopes up if it is impossible.

here's a metaanalysis from earlier this year looking at met and the treatment of pcos. Their primary indicator was live births-there was no effect in either lean or obese women. However met significantly increased ovulation and decreased testerone in lean pcos, and to a lesser degree in obese pcos women.

I bought a Blood Glucose monitor today and will be testing my blood glucose levels for the next two weeks to get a better picture of my Glucose and Insulin response.

Do any of you have your glucose numbers from lab test or other means? I would love to hear what your glucose levels were and if you are IR or Non-IR.
Please post all relevant data. I'll be posting all my results every couple of days.

Just diagnosed with PCOS (32 yrs old). I've never had regular periods, if I even have them at all. (Been 15 months since last period....was on BC for 10 yrs.) Ultrasound shows classic PCOS ovaries. A couple pimples here and there, slight hair growth and a low sex drive. Blood work shows no signs of thyroid problems, other diseases, etc.

Doctor says the only other cause for my PCOS must be insulin resistance. I find it hard to believe because I'm 5'6" and 115 lbs, and always have been.
I have always eaten a Mediterranean diet and work out 4 times a week. My blood pressure is super low. Triglycerides are super low. Bad cholesterol is super low and my good cholesterol is super high. There are no cases of Diabetes in my family and none of my 5 sisters have PCOS or other issues.
I am as healthy as you can possibly be.

Doctor wants to put me on Metformin and I'm reluctant. I don't know what else to do because I know nothing can be done in the diet and exercise department because I'm already living the optimal lifestyle.

Are there any other ladies out there with this type of story? Do you have PCOS but not insulin resistance? If so what is causing it? Please share all the info you have, I'd love to hear your feedback and experiences.

Thanks!

Newbie :) Need advice on Metformin.

Hi!
I am new to htis board.. I am looking for some insight and advice..
I am 29 years old, and was dx with PCOS a few years ago.. At that time I was having a menstrual cycle maybe 5-6 times a year or so.. But I had been nursing 2 kids for years up to that point.. Anyhow, Now I am having fairly regular cycles, and pretty sure im ovualting. We are not interested in becoming pregnant, (I have 4 kiddos, 2 bio, 2 adopted) but also will not take BC.. Anyhow, this week I had blood work done and my gyn wants me to try met. He said I had slightly high insulin levels?. I also had elevated free testosterone.. Said I dont HAVE to try meds, that diet and exercise would possibly do the same thing..
My main concerns are abdominal fat, (Im 114 lbs, but I swear I look pregnant!) and how PCOS could lead to metobolic issues, heart problems later in life.
Any advice on the safety of Met, (read about lactic acidosis), how it feels when you start, (scared of feeling like crap and having to take care of all my kiddos feeling icky) and what the benefits would be to someone is my scenario.. I feel that I havent buckled down and really exercised.. We eat fairly healthy, but I havent looked into a PCOS diet. Should I (in your opinion) wait on the met until Ive tried that route? Do both? Id rather not put myself at risk of having compliations from meds if I dont "have" to, but I also want to be around til Im 100, preferably without heart disease..

Thanks to all who have read all this rambling!!

Look forward to posting here!!

TTC and BBT

Diagnose with PCOS in 2002. BCP for 7 years and now I'm currently TTC since May 09. Started Met. 2000 mg in October with no O and no AF. I will be adding Clomid 50 mg this month after the Provera to induce AF. Hoping 1st time's the charm!

I have been trying to chart my bbt and wondering if anyone out there has very low temps . . . mine almost are always around 96.6◦ F (which aren't even on my chart) and only ever get up to 97.3. I actually have to create my own charts to follow my bbt. Does anyone else have this? Is it a hormone imbalance that causes low temps or is it just my natural body temperature? I have a BMI of 20 and in general am a petite person. Any thoughts or advice?

early period on IVF

I'm in the 2 ww of my first IVF attempt. I responded very well, got 19 eggs retrieved, 16 mature, 8 fertilized normally. We were able to do a 5dt of 2 blasts. So far so good. However, 10dpo (and 5 day post ET), I got what looks like a period (cramps, fresh blood, etc etc). When I did IUIs before, I also got the period early - about 11dpo. I read that this can be due to low Progesterone; however, now I'm taking 1cc of IM P. shots every day. I started Vivelle patches (I'm not sure what this does; it's supposed to protect the lining perhaps?) in the end of the 9dpo.
Does anybody have a similar problem? do you know the causes for it? were you able to resolve this at all?
I still need to talk to the doc. But, it seems to me that my egg quality is OK, and this is something that has to do with the luteal phase/lining. (BTW, the lining was ~7-8mm on the day of the trigger, and 6.5-7mm on the day of ET.)
