Adopted and Bio Siblings

Hey everyone,

My story is complicated, but I have a 3 year old adopted daughter from Guatemala. We choose adoption after a few failed IUIs and a lot of money spent. We chose to build our family through adoption before we ran out of money. Now the time has come to add a sibling. I am almost 35, and still long for a biological child. We have insurance that covers 2 rounds of IVF this time so we are preparing to return to the RE next year to pursue this option. Not only do I have PCOS, but my husband has morphology issues. We are not sure this will end on a positive note, but we are optimistic and my PCOS is a lot more under control than it was before. I've lost weight and get my cycle with ovulation due to herbal therapies/exercise and improved nutrition. I just started seeing an acupuncturist to further try to regulate my system. My husband may start seeing her as well (he's currently taking supplements).

I love my adopted daughter and would not change the past for anything. I do not think I would love a bio child any more. I am just wondering if anyone out there has a bio child and an adopted child, and how the dynamic is working out. I have wondered if it would be better for her to have an adopted sibling vs. our biological child. I do not want her to feel like an outcast or that she is loved any less.

Any thoughts on this or how I should handle questions as they come up?

I have been throwing around the adoption option since we have been ttc for 2 years now. My husband is an NRI (Non-resident Indian) and I would like to look at options on adopting from his home country.

I'd love to hear about your experience, cost and any agencies that could be recommended.

Thanks

Has anyone adopted and BF their baby?

We adopted our older DD from a second cousin of mine that was in jail when the baby was born. When my cousin was put in jail she was already 8 months along, so we had less than a month to prepare for her. I didn't try to BF her at all just beause of the time crunch we were under. We had to scramble to just get all the basics for her.

Anyway when she was 2 we started TTC again and had our beautiful twins last November. They were 3 months premature and had a stay in the nicu for over 100 days. My milk dried up after only 2 months of pumping for them. The stress of everything, and not being able to put them to the breast i'm sure is why i dried up so fast. DH and I want a 4th child and have talked about adopting again, but i really want to be able to BF this child as it will be our last.

Can anyone share with me if you tried and it didn't work, or you tried and it did work ect.....Any input will be greatly appreciated!!!! TIA!!!

DH and I are considering international adoption, whether or not our current ttc efforts are successful. I've been reading about adoption, and I just feel really drawn to it--way more than continuing to IUI, injectables, or IVF. I don't think fost/adopt or domestic adoption would work for us because we couldn't bear the heartbreak of returning a child to their birth family or having a birth mother change her mind.

Since I don't know that much about adoption, can anyone share their international adoption experience? What country did you choose and why? How did your child bond with you? What was your trip like? How did you save the money or fundraise? Any help from my fellow SCs would be greatly appreciated!

What is the deal with bedroom size??

I toss the idea of adoption around in my head now and then. I like the appeal of one more child without fertility hell and baby years hell... ie I would want an older child, maybe preschool age...

But is there some deal about bedroom size?? And what is it?

Our house has "four" bedrooms. Two are ginormous - 12X15 or so. One of these is me and DH's, one is my 2 girls'. One room is 11X9 and my son has it. The fourth is our computer room which is 11X7.5 or so. It's SMALL. It could be a bedroom. I don't worry about lack of space for toys or whatever because there is a big room downstairs we use as a toy room. When the kids are older we plan to make the toy room the kid's "office." For computers, homework, etc. If we biologically had another kid and it was a girl we could easily fit it in the girls' room - if a boy we could make do with the small room for him. But don't they hold you to stricter standards with adoption??

I am not sure where I got this idea but I must have gotten it somewhere.

We are in PA if that matters.

Has anyone used the Shepards Care agency in Florida?
How about the private law firm James Fletcher Thompson in South Carolina?

We are looking in to an international adoption in the U.S. We are researching agencies. If you know anything or have heard anything about these could you please pass it along?

Thanks!
