Default Extreme Dizziness Metformin

I have been EXTREMELY dizzy since I started Metformin 3 days ago. I have fallen over a few times and the room spins alot.

Is this normal? Should I stop taking the met??

Hi, what is your dosage? You may have to cut back to give your body some time, I get extremely drowsy with met. Also, eat a meal and drink lots of water with your met, it should help with any side effects. Also, are you taking anything else, like provera or prometrium? Now, prometrium had me feeling like i was on a rollercoaster.

Hi there,

Whenever I have felt dizzy and keep in mind that I only started on met on this past Sunday, I found that eating a small snack and drinking water has helped. The dizziness may be from low blood sugar so food helps.

Hope it gets better for you!

i agree .. eat something with it // i also take a dose right before bed .. it is probably lowering you blood sugar too much .. so either cut back the dose for a few days ... or eat/drink with it

Thanks for the advice. I had been taking it with food but the dizziness kept getting worse and worse. I had to stop taking it a few days ago and the dizziness has ceased. I really wanted to be able to give it a chance. I take Yaz and Effexor and wonder if it interacted or increased the effects of one of them.

Hi,
I am also a thin cyster (110 pounds) and not insulin resistant but have been taking Met for 2 weeks. I was fine on 500 mg at night, but when I tried to add 500 during the day I too felt really dizzy and sleepy. Maybe bc I'm not insulin resistant (according to labs)? But what helped me was cutting the tablet in half (250mg during the day) and and keeping 500 mg at night. So I guess the point is try taking half of what u're supposed to take if it's making u dizzy, adn sllowly go up. And drinking water does seem to help.

Good luck!

Make sure you are eating enough and take the Met with your food instead of afterwards and make sure you drink lots of water. Most people get different symptoms with met and its just a matter of time until your body gets use to met.
