I'm sort of wondering what was up because I didn't change anything but I went from 163 my sophomore year in high school(after staying that weight for almost 5 years)...I went to 183 Jan of my senior year...and in May when I graduated I was 240...By October/November of that same year I was 265....Anyone else have this?
It sounds like worsening of insulin resistance that is part of some PCOS cases. Have you had a glucose tolerance test where they give you a syrupy soda and draw blood every 30 minutes? If not, request that your dr. order that test. I have IR and take glucophage to make my body use the insulin better. It can help temper weight gain and facilitate weight loss with diet and exercise. I'm still trying to get back on the weight-control wagon after a very hard year!

Actually July of 2008 I got the Lapband and I've already lost 50lbs. I've never had that test tho...all they gave me was a fasting glucose, and I had one come back really high (123), so my doc gave me another one but it was normal, but he said that it was high but it was 80 and normal is 70-100...idk he said it would be a good idea to be on metformin so I am on day 2 of met
I went from wearing a size 6 to 16+ in less than 6 months.
It was so dramatic that I only bought one pair of pants in between.
Any of the doctors I spoke to about it, dismissed it as being a side effect of PCOS.

Good grief, beetle! A young lady goes up that much in 6 months and drs. just say it's within the scope of typical pcos response? What are they smoking...

I also put on alot of weight very quickly,i can put on over a kg a week sometimes. its all about the pcos and food and excercise, sounds like you need to get on some good supplements and see your doc about metformin etc
well i was taking the bcp since 16 so not sure that does it...(anyway when I brought up that I didn't want to gain weight on BCP's my gyno pretty much looked at me like I was stupid and said "Birth control pills don't cause weight gain." So urm...yea...I am on metformin...I've taken 3 pills so far...today is going to be my first day of full dose...since starting it I've lost about 8lbs...but my body goes up and down in weight very easily...
I had a very similiar situation...I maintained 145-150ish all throughout high school, then within the year after high school I was hovering about 200. Now I am at 235, down from my highest of 247. All of this happened with no changes at all in any of my eating habits. Even now it takes a lot of work to maintain where Im at.

Oh my god! My doctor said the same thing about the pill not causing weight gain! I felt like saying "Excuse me? Then why does it say that it can right in the freakin insert??" I had to make the choice to go off of it on my own, because obviously I wasn't receiving any help.

i had the same drastic change in my weight as well. I was 140-150 for a long time, and then my weight began to climb- 160, 170, 180... then in either my junior or senior year of high school, i went to a weight-watcher's meeting with my grandma- and got weighed and had the absolute shock of being 201 lbs. Over the course of my first year of college, I got up to 208, and then during the year after that, I took a year off of college, and while working as a CNA, walking and lifting people for 8 hours per day, I lost weight down to about 198. Then I went back to school, and gained up to 214. I was 219 last spring at the end of the semester- and that was when I started looking up my symptoms online to see if there was anything that could possibly connect weight gain, infrequent periods, and hair growth. The NP at the school clinic gave me a dose of provera, and somehow, by the time I went to my actual dr. appointment in september (my first visit to a gynecologist in my life, too, lol.) I was 204 lbs. Following starting on metformin, Errin bcp, and spironolactone, I dropped down to 185! I don't know what I weigh currently; I've not been that good on my diet for the last week or two- so I'm afraid I might be a few pounds heavier by now. I didn't know my diet had changed- but the metformin kind of changed my diet on its own- i lost my appetite for awhile, and my dietary habits kind of changed because of it. I didn't know my eating habits were different at all until my mom told me it had.

Spironolactone (in adjustment- 100mg made me dizzy)
Metformin 2000mg
Mirena IUD- placed 8/27/09
Yeah, I went up about 20 lbs from mid July to September of last year. I didn't change much in regards of diet/exercise and I wasn't on any medications. It was a very stressful summer but the stress and the occasional eating of my feelings (lol) shouldn't have added up to 20 lbs in a month and a half...
That's what finally clicked to my dr and told me she was almost positive I have pcos
