My doctor didn't point anything out. When he saw the 6 month later one (which he didn't compare to the last one) all he said was "your liver is a little messed up, but I'm surprised it's not worse considering your weight. The funny part about that is I had lost about 35-40 pounds in that 6 month period, yet my liver function decreased, my cholesterol went up (good went down), my testosterone went up and most of my labs got worse.. body hair started growing out of control and my hairline has receeded an inch and a half and the part that is still there is so thin that I cry daily. This is all after starting treatment.
My treatment includes, met, spiro, and propecia. Things just get worse. I am starting to think I have been misdiagnosed... but most of the misdiagnoses' that I have seen seem to have high cortisol levels and my dhea was 124 (ranged up to 385) and as far as I know if my cortisol was high, my dhea would be too. I don't think I was tested for cortisol though (does it show up on labs AS cortisol?)
I've had a VERY rough life, but this is by FAR the worst thing I have ever had to deal with. I am 25 and I am turning in to a man... I am so scared of the future

It is a sign that your liver isn't happy, and I would call your doctor's office to have them explain it better. DH has issues with fatty liver deposits and his levels were a good bit higher than yours last time they were checked. I don't necessarily think it's something to be in a panic over though. People with full out liver failure will have those enzymes be in the 1000's or higher.

i know my levels are not crazy, but I was just scared that it almost doubled in such a short time. Do your husbands levels fluctuate greatly each time? How high was it when they diagnosed him?

He hasn't had them checked in quite a while (since he's being stubborn and won't go back to the doctor) but last time I think they were both in the 100-200 range. I don't think there was any huge fluctuation, but I don't have the printouts anymore so I can't say for sure. He also had a abdominal u/s which confirmed there were fatty deposits.

I'm not on any sort of prescribed meds but it's funny that you mention that you lost weight and your cholesterol went up......same thing happened to me....lost 10lbs and LDL's went up for some reason too. Not sure about your liver function levels though.
i agree with gothgrrl. my liver functions used to be within the normal range and now they're always in the 100-200 range. the DR perscribed a series of tests and did an ERCP ( i think ).. something along that abbreviation. they sedated me and had a scope, went in through my mouth, then shot dye around my liver. the only problem was a fatty liver which has in turn caused a little bit of damage, but nothing to even worry about. i just have to be cautious on taken things such as tylenol and no drinking binges.
just call your DR and have someone explain it to you, but i'm sure it's nothing to worry or panic over
I dont know if this will help, i've been on metformin for @ 6 weeks now and when my dr gave me the prescription he told me I would have to have my liver counts checked after about 6 wks because met can damage your liver. Could it be the metformin?
my LFT deteriorated dramatically after using strong painkillers for a back injury, and Metformin. I came off Met but it wouldn't improve because I was still doing the painkillers.
I still take the painkillers sporadically but I started taking Milk Thistle, one a day. after a year I for another LFT last month and for the first time in over 5 years, I didn't get a call to come back to the doctors surgery, my LFT came back ok. I 100% recommend Milk Thistle.

37, diag 1993 - textbook case! tried; Dianette*Met*Provera.Now back on Spiro, & taking; Atracand for high BP*Evening Primrose Oil*Milk Thistle*Cinnamon*Agnus Castus*Multivitamin + Minerals with Probiotic*St Johns Wort*Glucosamine*
omg i had no idea met could do that! I started it in March, then added Spiro around June 1st and the labs that showed my liver all messed up were from the end of July so I wouldn't think the spiro had enough time to do that, but the met definitely did! I reduced my dose from 2000mg to 1000 mg a few weeks ago and now the dr told me yesterday to stop taking it for 2 weeks and then come see her.... but I was also there to complain about why my hair is falling out like crazy and I'm growing hair everywhere that HAIRY men do and it all "started" when I started being treated for this. well i had a little body/facial hair but it was never bad enough that it made me self conscious. Now I cry daily for my continued lost hair (if I lose 200 or less in one day i'm EXCITED... that's sad!) and the fact that everyone can see hair all over me.
