I have been on Metformin for about 3 weeks on tomorrow. Since starting, I have been extremely sleepy...i mean to the point of not being able to keep my eyes open. i know this is not due to overexertion bc my job does not require me to do any strenuous work. Is anyone else hvaing this problem? Please let me know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had the exact same thing happen to me when I started taking Metformin. And it lastest a long time too. I'm not sure if this is what helped, but I started taking vitamin B. I heard Met. depletes your vitamin B (or something like that). But regardless it seemed to help right away!
Cycle #1-#3: Met/Clomid/Ovidrel/IUI-BFNs
Cycle #4- BCP/Met/Puregon/Superfact/Ovidrel/2 IUIs
05/10/09 BFP: Chemical Pregnancy
Cycle #5: Met/Puregon/Superfact/Ovidrel/2 IUIs and lots of faith that this is it! 31/10/09 BFP!

Thanks Cynthia for the reply. I have previously been on Metformin b4 & I didnt have this problem, but now that i think about it I had been taking vitamin b50 bcuz someone had suggested it to me to help with wt loss & energy. Maybe I will try it again. I have also been scanning thru some of the threads here & they have been talking about maybe a vitamin d deficiency, so im also gonna check into that. Thanks again for the quick reply!
Ive started taking it b4 bed now & it is better than b4 but im still kinda tired. Ive also tried to increase it to 1000mg since i was supposed to like a couple of weeks ago & couldnt tolerate it, so now im taking it slow...nut i have been having a general feeling of malaise in the morning like stomach ache, kinda nauseated, burping, etc. What do yall suggest?
Make sure you are eating something with it, something light, and not too sugary or fatty. That should help the symptoms.
Another thing, is make sure you are taking a full B complex vitamin. In order for you to see a big difference, you need to be getting the entire B family of vitamins, as they interact with each other in your body, and some don't work without enough of another type.
You might also consider taking 1000-2000 units of Vitamin D3, there is alot of research coming out suggesting a coorelation between PCOS and Vitamin d deficiency. If your not getting enough, you will have energy issues as well. Just make sure is gelcap Vitamin D3. HTH!

Samie -- so thaaaaat's why my family Dr is checking me for Vitamin D deficiancy... I wondered why that was on the lab order! Well, I'll see what the results are when I go for my annual physical on the 12th... then let my RE know!

Angela! Love the new pic
So your vacation looks awesome!
Is it your regular endocrinologist?
Yep, once my mom finally got into one, that's the first of many lab tests she got. She's hypothyroid, but has had issue after issue for years, and her General Practitioner finally referred her out.
My mom's endo. told her that any woman over the age of 18 should be taking 2000units a day of Vit. D3, and if they are tested as deficient, they normally will take way more than that.

My general practictioner (family doctor) ordered the BW as part of my yearly physical. It's the first time I remember him checking for Vit D. (Although my RE could have checked it... i dunno!) I have an GP, RE, and regular Endo... but what one discovers/treats, I let the others know

Ah! That's awesome your GP is running it. Its actually part of the American Academy of Family Practitioners/Physicians new guidelines for annual b/w. Not many have gotten the message though.
I know, my docs sometimes look at me odd when I share b/w results between them...

Annie, they say gelcap or the clear ones (kinda resemble tiny fish oil pills) are absorbed more efficiently in your body.
I was taking the tablets too, but just recently switched over to the gelcaps. Their also supposed to have less fillers, etc.
