Exubera Inhaled Insulin Hello! My husband is a type 1 diabetic, and has been for almost five years.
He has always had to do insulin shots, which suck big time.
We tried to get him the pump, but his deductible is 5k, so couldnt afford it.
Well, guess what he got this week? The Exubera Inhaled Insulin.
It is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
He has not had his sugars this good in all the time he has had diabetes. He always skipped shots, wouldnt check himself, etc, because he hated the shots so much.
The little gadget that delivers the insulin, the inhaler, was given to us free from his endocrinologist. His monthly copay for the insulin itself is 40$. And he takes a lot. He still has to take a shot of Lantus 46 units every night, but 1 shot a day is great compared to 4-6 shots.
I just wanted everyone to know that if it is intersting to you and you have good lung function, you should ask your doctor if you would be a good match. You have to be 18, and I dont think you can use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, but dont quote me on that.
If you have any questions, let me know. |
