Glad you made one! It sounds to me like you had plenty of greens in there. Sometimes when you use dark colored fruits like pomegranates and berries, the smoothies will come out more of a maroon or purple color. That's okay, as long as you have your greens in there.
Some say not to combine fruits and veggies, as they don't digest well together, but if you can combine the two without problems, I say go for it! Instread of V8, which is pasteurized, you may want to instead used canned whole or diced tomatoes, and that will give you the V8 flavor you're looking for. Adding celery is a great idea, and some garlic in there would be good too! I even add onions to mine sometimes.
I agree about the salad thing - before the smoothies came along, I rarely ate leafy greens.

Just wanted to bump this up for anyone who hasn't yet seen it.

I just made a green smoothie... and it's definitely different tasting. Very mild. I made a smaller batch, though, because don't like the idea of having it sit in the fridge overnight.
I used frozen strawberries, greens, water, a little cinnamon, a ring of onion (which didn't blend in very well.. won't use that next time, but I love onion)
Anyway, I could use some help with my skin, so I think I'll try this for a little while. It's not bad tasting
I'm glad you tried a smoothie! If you want a sweeter taste, try fruits like apples, pears, bananas, mangoes, pineapple, peaches, etc. I only use berries to add a little flavor and for their nutrient value, but they're not a sweet fruit though that will mask the flavor of the greens.
I'm like you, I like drinking mine fresh everyday, and I just changed the first post to reflect that.
Greens are the number one thing you can do for your skin, so I hope you will begin to see a change. Also, cutting down on animal products can also greatly help. Dr. Fuhrman, mentioned on the first post, recommends less than 12 oz. of animal products a week - many women with PCOS have gotten relief by following his diet plan, Eat to Live. I follow it, find it easy, structured, and delicious. I love it!
Please let me know if I can be of anymore help!!

what a great idea!!! these smoothies are really easy and good. I tired one today, i always have a hard time eating the baby spring mix and salad mixes, because I love dressing either sugary ones which are not low carb) or super fatty dressing that i know arent low calorie!!!! so my salad mixes usually go slimy and bad before i get the guts to chop topping and eat a vinegarette dressing.lol. This morning i did what you suggested and guess what i used blueberries and lots of salad and to my suprise it was tolerable and enjoyable. I think adding the oil and nuts it a really good idea to keep the blood sugar stable, fitting it in with my low carb diet was super easy. I would have never thought of adding salad to fruit smoothies!!! thanks so much for posting this!!! I cant wait to see amazing results.

Aw, you are so welcome!! I always love it when I can help someone. I agree about how nice it is not to have to eat a traditional salad! I sometimes do "blended salads" too, where I'll blend greens with one fruit, avocado, carrots, tomatoes, celery, peppers, cucumbers, onion, etc. Those are great too! It took me a year and a half to even give those a try though, haha.
If you want fats to help stabilize your blood sugar, you may want to consider a tablespoon of ground flaxseed - I always add that to mine, and I also take a teaspoon of fish oil before drinking mine.
I'm glad you liked it with the blueberries! Blueberries are great for masking the green flavor. I really like adding sweet fruits too - those help a lot!
If you're looking for a healthy salad recipe, I've got a great one that is super healthy and doesn't use processed oils, which are high in calories but have virtually no nutrition. I like to get my fats from whole foods, like nuts, avocado, etc. The basic recipe is 1 cup soy or almond milk, blended with 1 cup of raw cashews, 2 tbs dried onions, 1/4 cup lemon juice. You can then add garlic and dijon mustard for a caesar salad type dressing, or just add vinegar, or even blend fruit with it, add seasonings, etc. I also use this sauce for a veggie sauce with steamed veggies (which I eat almost every night!).
Thanks so much for posting and sharing your excitement about the smoothies! I'm hoping you will see quick results!! If your acne is mild, I think you will within 6 weeks, especially if you try to cut out junk from your diet, and to up the results, just add more greens. Let me know if I can be of anymore help!

So you disguise the taste with fruit? It sounds like a really yuck kind of combination - like those tastes bad but is good for u. I'd just be too afraid it'd taste gross. It sounds like a great idea though

Since you disguise the taste with fruit, you don't taste the greens. I'd recommend starting out with sweet fruit, like apples, pears, bananas, pineapple, mangos, etc. and baby spinach, which has a very mild flavor and is very hard to detect in a smoothie, unless you use a lot! Why not just give it a shot? The worst that can happen is that you end up wasting a couple pieces of fruit and a handful of greens, haha.
...your cat is adorable, by the way! He/she looks like a Maincoon - I love Maincoon cats.

I might try, trouble is I fried our little blender & we only have a large one that doesn't work too well.
Thanks for that, my cat, well she is just a regular domestic Tabby, but that doesn't matter I still love her

My most precious cat ever was a Tabby. Your cat is beautiful!
Maybe when you upgrade to another blender one day, you can give the smoothies a try - I think you'd like them!

I may have solved the problem, my mum found a replacement for the one I blew up (just yesterday actually). So baby spinach & some fruit, might give it a try (if I remember to get it at the supermarket, I've just been for the week lol).
what fruit works the best? more fruit to less greens?

OK.... I've been trying to get back on smoothies for breakfast and I saw this and was intrigued...
I just made one with milk, yogurt, blueberries and baby spinach (as per the Abs diet basic recipe + the greens). I have to say, it wasn't half bad. It was ugly as heck tho! The red/blue and the green made a nice purple gray/puce with chunks of blue skin... I did a small batch, so there's a little left over for either later or tomorrow morning.
Note: Bad idea to use hand blender type tool on this.... I splashed it from one room to another, I discovered after the fact! The leafy stuff made it a bit difficult.

Hey Jeanette! I just now saw your PM - sorry I didn't respond sooner! I tried replying, buy it says I can't PM anyone until I have at least 30 posts. Anyway, you are SO sweet!!! Thanks so much for the M&M!! - you put a smile on my face. I feel special.
Sorry I'm so late in responding to your reply too - don't know why I didn't get the e-mail alerts of these. But yes, more fruit to greens is great when starting out - I'd say at least 60% fruit! Baby spinach is great, because it has a mild flavor. I would then use fruits like apples, pears, bananas, and frozen, sweet, fruits like mango, pineapple, peaches, etc. A pear, 1 cup frozen mango, 1/3 cup frozen raspberries with a small handful of baby spinach and a couple cups of water would be divine!

LOL!! Your post totally cracked me up!! hehe I'm glad you liked the smoothie okay! Some "sweet" fruits added to it would help, and yeah, they do have a funny color. You can give them a maroon shade with berries like raspberries - and I LOVE adding raspberries to mine!
It's true that you need a fairly good blended to blend these up nicely. I use a Vita-Mix, and it's a very powerful blender, so mine don't at all turn out chunky. However, before I got my new Vita-Mix, I was using an older one that didn't blend as finely, and I still got great results by drinking my smoothies blended with it. Many use $30 store bought blenders and do find with those as well. You might also want to try blending a little longer.

No problem, thanks for the 'recipe', will have to look for frozen mango, I've only seen frozen berries (which I can use for the berry part!), not that I'm all that knowledgeable on frozen fruit. LOL I forgot to look for spinach - was to busy trying to worry about getting all of the regular shopping by myself (usually if I go alone mum makes the list & I drive down & get it) that I forgot to even think of new items
Glad the M&M brought u a smile, I noticed u didn't have any gifts, so through the donation of points from another cyster I spread the gifting around I reckon its a bit stingy that it won't let u reply until 30 posts!

Whole Foods has a great selection of frozen fruits - I would imagine that other health food stores would too, like Trader Joes or Wild Oats - even little hole in wall health food stores. I'm sure next time you'll remember the spinach - I sometimes forget when I mean to try to new things too!
Thanks again for the m&m! That was so thoughtful of you.
