Aw, sorry Jeanette!! I don't know why I assumed you lived in the US! Silly ME!!!!! haha So cool that you live in New Zealand!! Regardless of the stores though, what I was trying to get at is that I'm sure just any regular health store that sells food would have frozen fruits.
You're welcome for the donation - I thought it was going to ask me to pick out a gift for you after I donated the points, but it didn't, so my gift ended up just being uncreative bunch of points. haha

If u wanna gift just click on the gifts that they already have, that way it automatically enters the user name of the person u want 2 gift & then u just choose the pic u want to send. If they don't already have any then it has to be done the hard way through the vbux menu - give gifts.
Health stores here I think are very different to what u r used to, most only sell select products of foodstuffs (like muslei bars & that type of packaged product) and the majority of the store is dedicated to vitamins & other natural remedies (pills, creams etc.). The supermarket is the place to shop!

Ah, thanks for explaining the gift giving procedure!! Sounds like fun.
Again, I assumed your health food stores would be similar to mine..... haha Sorry! Well, I wish I could sprinkle your supermarket with fairy dust so that it would have all the perfect frozen fruits for you. Perhaps you could request them? Maybe there's a co-op in your area you could join that sells frozen fruit?

Hi girls, just found this thread. My step-mother makes these smoothies on a daily basis. She's super-healthy and glows all the time. She made me one and although I initially found the colour disturbing, I REALLY enjoyed it, and will be asking for an industrial blender for my up-coming birthday. I do make an effort to eat my leafy greens, but this will be a much easier way. It's great to have all the tips and ideas for making the smoothies varied too. Thanks

There are 2 major supermarket chains in the city/country, each has a number of different stores with slightly different products & focuses. The nearest supermarket is a budget type one, good products but low prices, the other one we shop at because although pricier it has different products. Will have to remember to check them both, but if not i'll just have to use something else

I hope you can find them, but if not, I'll know you'll figure something out!
Jenn,
That's great!! I hope they go well for you - be sure to write with any questions!

just found this thread about smoothies. I make fruit ones all the time but i prefer to use frozen, i usually but the fruit and cut it up then freeze it, i dont like them so much using fruit thats not fozen I havent tried veg ones yet but i will have to give it a go.
^ Oh cool! Yes, I prefer to have frozen fruit in mine as well. I usually do a combo though. I hope you like them with leafy greens added! I'd start with baby spinach, as it has a mild flavor. Let me know if you have any questions!

What is a good replacement for baby spinach, I can't find it anywhere!
I thought of cabbage cause we had some but I think it is a bit too fibrous?

Just a question - I told you how my step-mother makes these every day? Well, she uses an industrial strength blender, because she likes her smoothies really smooth. I was wondering if you just use a good quality household blender, because after finding out the price of an industrial one, I've done a back pedal on asking for one for my birthday. I'm not too fussy about the smoothness, but do not want to be swallowing whole chunks of lettuce or spinach with my smoothie. What do you recommend?
Jeanette, do you get silverbeet in NZ? It's pretty much classified as spinach here, but not sure if it's much different to baby spinach.

Hey Jeanette! I think I'd opt for baby romaine lettuce - that's pretty mild in flavor as well. Kale is mild too, but you *must* de-stem the kale before using it in your smoothies, otherwise, it's *very* fibrous!! There are many varieties of kale. I like the dark green, flat kale, which is called Dinosaur Kale in the States.

I recommend a Vita-Mix, which is a very powerful blender and starting prices are around $350 (https://secure.vitamix.com/acb/store...x-P386C64.aspx). However, for the first year that I did the smoothies, I used an *old* Vita-Mix that didn't blend the greens down nearly as fine as my new one does. My smoothies were still drinkable though, and I still got great results. I LOVE my new Vita-Mix though. I use it ALL the time. I make nut-based cream sauces, ice creams made of frozen fruit and soy milk (or nut milk), soup bases etc. If I was thrown onto a deserted island and could only take one appliance with me, it would be my Vita-Mix!!
