I have felt personally that my face has changed quite a bit over the past 3 years. I've had missing periods since about age 16 (I'm 23 now) but never diagnosed with PCOS because my doctors just brush me off all of the time and tell me to get on BC. I've been on BC off and on, all different kinds. The first time I noticed was Summer of 06. I gained weight and my face became "larger." Just not as refined and sort of bloated. My hair had been falling out for quite some time. I lost the weight Spring of 07. Summer of 07 (was not on BC) my hair fell out the most. My face seems to go through stages - sometimes it looks like it did in high school and other times it seems like my actual bones have gotten bigger. Is this the testosterone? Has anyone had this problem?
I'm waiting for health insurance and a new job (graduating from college in 2 weeks!) to get this all taken care of. I wish I could do it sooner but the town I live in only has a few gynecology places, all of which have brushed me off. I'm looking for a doctor near DC.
Anyway PLEASE let me know if anyone else has experienced this. Is it just age or is it my hormones????

Yes, it's probably the high testosterone levels which do tend to change the facial structure and lead to more muscle (rather than fat) throughout the body.
I was just thinking about this too! I feel like my face was so much smaller and prettier when I was in high school and now I feel like I have a big, wide, round, plain face :-( I'm hoping that losing weight and regulating my hormones will help some.

i think hormones can change your face, look at britney spears. after she had her kids she looks totally different to me in the face. i thought it was just me, but many people i have talked to agree. even now that she is the same size as before. i feel like my face has changed but i believe it's b/c of the weight being 80 lbs overweight and losing about 40 over the past few years. it keeps changing.

Yessss I totally thought Britney Spears also had a big face change! I never thought of that though in relation to me. Very very interesting. She's looking a lot better now as well but still not the same. Could be partially due to age too?
I'm not overweight at all (just some tummy, possible insulin resistance there bah) and still my face has changed. Before when I said I had gained weight at a certain time in my life, it was about 10-12 pounds (but you can really tell on my 5'0" frame).
I think it would be very plausible in my head that it is due to testosterone creating more muscle than fat in my body. That makes sense...
I wonder if levels drop from meds that it is somewhat reversible? My face hasn't changed from pretty to a monstrosity but man, I sure do miss it and I can definitely tell I look more full, more rounded, more plain, less refined and girly. Bah
Whoa, I thought it was just from playing sports and stuff but I have always felt very "dudish" and although it could just be from weight gain I've noticed recently the little dimple in my chin has gotten more pronounced (I call it a butt chin) and my skin just seems thicker overall. I noticed in my wedding photos when standing with my bridesmaids, they all looked like normal ladies despite their weight, and I was like this dude in a dress....like a professional swimmer or something. My sis is the same height as me but definitely smaller frame. I am not sure if this is something that reverses itself with treatment, though. And you should see my arms. I have got GUNS. I barely lift a weight and out pops a new muscle. Crazy!
I totally thought I was nuts thinking my face has changed! I think I look more masculine with my weight gain, because I used to look like my mom, and I don't very much anymore. It may all be in my head, but I'm glad to know that others feel the same way. Ugh, this sucks!

I think many of us have experienced this "looking like a guy" feeling. When I was 19 I could easily have passed for a guy. If I didn't shave my moustache for 24 hours, didn't shave my legs for a week or two, wore short pants, a shirt that wasn't too tight and put my hair under a cap I'd have been taken by almost everyone to be a 14- or 15- year old guy. Legs hairier than most guys, male-type moustache growth, no real breast development -- just female nipples on a flat chest.
So what do you do to counteract that masculine appearance? My answer has been to grow my hair long and to wear skirts -- usually long ones to hide my hairy legs.

Joyblack: interesting question and I'd love to hear from others. I have noticed that when I was younger, I could have passed for a boy, but despite my current body shape as sort of solid like a guy, I am blessed with a clearly feminine face. Still, I also grew my hair super long and kept it that way through h/s and college. I also started wearing makeup and that made me feel more feminine, then in college I discovered the magic of eyebrow waxing. I found this a very effective means for seeming more feminine. I also spoil myself with pedicures whenever I can and show off my toesies (which I have to shave, by the way). Cute jewelry helps and doesn't have to be expensive. Target sells some cute jewelry. I think bottom line is put yourself first and get your hair done, your nails done, etc. so you can feel at your best. If you can't afford that stuff, spend some time being girly. Soak in a bath and give yourself a pedicure, shave all the parts you want to, put on some nice body lotion that smells nice on you, etc. Treat yourself like a lady and you will give off that impression and have that confidence when you're out and about!
I have to shave my toes too!!!!! I have the biggest happy trail of all time! It's sooo bad. I can't go swimming on a moment's notice because I have to shave it the DAY OF otherwise there is stubble and no one likes to see that!
So no one has felt relief from these symptoms? I thought at least the hair on toes etc. would go away after meds. Though perhaps not everyone IS on meds. I can't until I get insurance
