Unhappy facial hair

I just joined tonight--Hello all. I was diagnosed 10 years ago. I have a lot of facial hair and must shave everyday. My Dr. doesn't know what to do for me. Does anyone have any remedies or ideas? Thank you!

Hello, welcome to SC!

I know quite a few women take Spiro for their facial hair, but I don't have much personal experience with it. I know there is a hair loss/growth section of the boards right here: http://www.soulcysters.net/hair-loss-hair-growth/ . Best of luck.

Sarah

You've already been pointed to the section dedicated to this subject, but in a nutshell, shaving may simply be the best option. It certainly is for me.

If you need the medication for reasons other than the facial hair -- fine. If not, I reckon that for me the probable side-effects aren't worth it. My moustache growth was a dreadful embarrassment to me as a teenager and the fact that I shaved every day was something I felt as a horrible guilty secret. I couldn't imagine any guy wanting a girl who shaved every day like a male. But that's not how things turned out to be at all -- dh saw me for the first time when I hadn't shaved for 24 hours and had coarse black moustache stubble and it didn't put him off at all. It's never hindered our romantic life. We shave together in the morning. Our kids know I shave and see me shaving. I've even told a few of our close male friends who occasionally stay overnight with us that I shave and it hasn't spoiled my relationship with them. So for me, shaving is the remedy.

I just joined tonight too. I have only recently been diagnoised with PCOS, I am so glad to stumble accross this forum and hear other people's experiences and not feel so alone. My best friend has also been diagnosed with PCOS but she is so lucky to have 2 beautiful baby boys aged 4 and 2 and another on the way. I have never been able to get pregnant. She has cysts on her overies like mine but dosent suffer from facial hair like I do. I have bad facial hair on my chin and have to pluck twice a day, waxing gets rid off some of the finer hairs on my chin and my mostache but I have to pluck the rest. I have suspected something was not right for a long time as I can't fall pregnant tried for 8yrs. I am too scared to shave as I heard it makes it grow bad thicker and worse but I'm not too sure as never tried. The Diane pill helped with my acne but not my facial hair. I am considering laser treatment even though it is expensive. I wondered if there is a link between wemon having facial hair and not being able to fall pregnant.

Hi. Shaving makes it worse for me also. I've been waxing for years. At first all the hair was hard to remove and the rest I had to pluck them out. But I kept with it and it started to work wonders. I'm only considering changing methods because since I've started using Spironolactone, the areas that I waxed have become darker.

Shaving should really not make the hair any 'worse' - some people think it is different because of the way the razor cuts the hair .. but really its just cutting the hair not changing the internal part of the hair. Plucking actually does far more damage (if you will) than shaving by distorting the hair follicle and causing ingrowns etc. That said - I refused to 'shave' until I was in my 30's .. i would spend HOURS in front of a mirror at different angles to get that 'next' hair .. it was an addiction - since shaving I can spend so much less time plucking - I only shave my chin (facial wise) I have tried laser and electrolysys .. both worked while doing it but since stopping has come back .. and now I am waiting until my hormones are in check before going back to spend that kind of money. My dr just put me on spiro & vaniqa - hopeing to see results while waiting to figure out my hormones!

You might also want to look into electolosys and laser hair removal. I have a friend who had a lot of facial hair and electrolysis really worked for her.
