HI... I am fairly new to PCOS...found out in April, I am having a rough time dealing with it. I have been married for a little over a year, and we want to try and have children, my docotor does not think i need to and has put me on metformin (which I hate) it makes me sick! and birth control, she says i need to lose over 100 lbs before even talking about trying to conceive, i have been trying to lose weight, and nothing is working . I am very fustrated! any advice?!
Second, if you aren't happy with your Dr and think you should be TTC, then perhaps you can find another Dr?
Third, have you tried the Insulin Resistance diet? Many ladies here have had a great deal of luck with it!
Good luck!

Hi! I just wanted to say WELCOME! In my honest opinion, if you're not happy with the treatment you've gotten from this doctor...I think you need to run as fast and as far away from this doctor as possible. First of all, it's YOUR decision whether or not you want to try to have children. Yes, it's possible that with PCOS you will have to have assistance, but there are plenty of doctors out there that will be willing to help you. Try looking for a more size friendly doctor...maybe post a request for someone in your area to recommend a doctor? As for the weight loss, many cysters have had success with the Insulin Resistance diet (modified low carb). I lost about 35 lbs on it last year myself. Being diagnosed is oftentimes a double edged sword, simply because we're so happy to finally have a diagnosis and be validated that we're not crazy...yet it brings with it all of the realizations of what we're dealing with and will be dealing with for some time to come. Be proactive...read all the information you can, find a good doctor that is willing to work with you, and most of all...keep coming here!!! This is one of the best resources you will ever have. Tons of information and wonderfully supportive friends to help you deal with everything going on. Best of luck to you!!!

I've got to agree with the other ladies that have posted. Sounds like it's time to find a new doctor. It wasn't until I started learning all I could about PCOS that I realized that the doctor who diagnosed me knew nothing about it. He told me that the only way I could gain the weight I have was if I was gorging myself... in the same breath he told me I had PCOS. He told me that all of my problems (including my irregularity and the cycle that wouldn't stop) were a result of my weight and nothing more. And he insisted that I go back on BCP and that I not get pg until after I lose weight.
I'm the first to admit that my weight can be a very big factor in my health. But to not acknowledge that something else might be affecting my weight and in fact tell me that it couldn't be the case, just did not ring true to me. And I do want to be healthier for my baby whenever it is that I will be so blessed. But I have the feeling it will be hard enough for me to concieve, that I don't want to put it off if my body will allow it.
You need a doctor that will give you the support and help that you need. Not just look at your weight and blame everything on that. I go to see a new doctor today that was recommended to me from another cyster on this site. You might want to head to the Finding a Doctor section, and get a second opinion.
As for the weight, I've lost just over 10 pounds on Weight Watchers. I use the Flex plan that allows you to choose what you eat, but has all of the components for helping you to balance your diet and work on portion control at the same time. Since I can choose what I eat, I choose the foods that are lower in refined carbs and sugar. If you're needing help with portion control or balance (proper amount of water, fruits, veggies and dairy) then you might want to try it. Just watch the refined carbs while you're at it.

I'm fairly new to PCOS as well I was diagnosed in May. I'm struggling with it as well. I'm not on anything other then birth control pills which are helping regulate my cycles, but I'm still dealing with the emotional side of PCOS. If you'd like to talk more you can email me at BlissfulTears72@yahoo.com My name is Wendi.
Don't want to repeat all the other ladies....so, ya....what they said!
And welcome to SC! If you need anything, we are always here for support and to answer your questions!
