Default False (?) positive with +/- tests followed by neg dollar store ones?

I've had false positives before. As in, confirmed by quantitative beta hCG that I was not pregnant. I've had a few with the +/- tests, but succumbed yesterday and bought two One Step brand +/- tests.

One came up positive last night - with very dilute pee - and another this morning came up very clearly positive immediately, even my husband could see it. There is no doubt whatsoever that both those tests were positive - dark and easily seen even in low light. They look exactly like the positives that I got when pg with my son.

I just tested again using a dollar store one (supposedly more sensitive) and it was clearly negative.

ARGH! I'm going to be so pissed off if I am getting false positives again.

Has anyone tested negative with the dollar store ones even after getting a positive on other brands?

Should I just spring the $20 for a digital?

Sprang for the digital. Big fat "- No".

Blah. Guess I'm out this cycle. I've never had so many negatives at 13dpo and actually been pregnant.

Are the +/- tests blue dye tests? They tend to get false positives/evap lines, I believe. I'm always really nervous to use those.

And sorry for the negative digital. I think seeing the 'not pregnant' on it is the most disheartening thing of all.

Yeah, they're blue dye. I swore I'd never use them again, and I went and did it... and here we are. False hope.

AF's due tomorrow, so we'll see. I actually have an ultrasound scheduled for the 10th (I've had some cyst-like pain that's pretty bad since before O) so I will find out for certain then. If I am pregnant, I'd be 6 weeks by then so I'd be able to see the baby if it exists, I just don't want to wait two *more* weeks, you know?

Uh...I got my BFP on those and was still getting what technically would be a BFN on the dollar store. If its Blue, without a doubt blue, then it's very likely a BFP. Have you tried w/ a Answers Early Result or FRER?
My BFP's on the dollar store ones were BARELY there, in other words even holding under a light bulb I could see something, but dh couldn't. The next morning my beta was 38. I took another dollar store, and it was still super super light.
Those + or - ones I think are pretty sensitive. When I did get a irrefutable BFP, the line was darker on the + or - one than the FRER

I was all bummed (as in, just ate half a bar of chocolate bummed) and so now I'm going to stop drinking after 8pm and take my last dollar store one with FMU.

I could swear that with the dollar store ones, I'm seeing *something* - but I've been seeing the same something for several days now, and my husband can't see it at all on those ones, so I figure it's just the antibody strip.

The digital I just took was FRER Digital, and I believe that uses the same antigen as FRER. After I got my "- No" result, of course I tore it apart, and the strip showed a fairly clear negative. On the plus side, the digital test uses the same batteries as my BBT, and my BBT died on me today, so at least I have some new batteries for it, even if I'm not pg.

Half a bar of chocolate? I hope that was one of those huge bars of chocolate.

LOL.
I've read on a couple of other sites that FRER digital is less sensitive than the standard ones.
I felt like I was going mental testing with those dollar store ones.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

It was a very decently sized chocolate bar, whose exact dimensions will remain undisclosed.

For referene, here's my +/- one from this morning. Apologies for the crappy photo quality, my Blackberry sucks when you zoom in, and for some reason, these don't scan very well. It is, of course, a lot darker in person.

Blah. I've spent at least $100 on pee sticks in the past couple months, hah. I think the hubby is reaching his tolerance limit, hah. I'm about to send him out to the dollar store again, though.

I became desperate one cycle and bought a FRER digital thinking they were like the golden standard of HPTs and got the "not pregnant". That damn stick telling you in words you aren't preg is way worse than not getting that second line IMO. I got my BFP on a $3 Early Answers brand test, blue ink. I wouldn't give up hope yet. Call your doc for a beta today before the holiday, if they're open. It would put your mind at rest.

I still have more than half a bottle of OPKs sitting under my sink at home, I'm still mad I paid $20 for those things and only used like 3.

13dpo right now, but I'm starting to think I may have been off on my O date. My temps indicate the 12th, but I got a positive OPK on the 12th, so maybe I O'd early on the 13th...

I'd share my chart, but I keep it on a clipboard beside my bed, and don't feel like entering all that data on FF, hehe.

We're Canadian, so thankfully Thanksgiving was last month for us, hah. I am not dealing with an RE yet (though if I am not pregnant now, I will be requesting a referral when I see my OB/Gyn next month).

I think I'm going to call. I've never actually called a doctor's office to request labwork before... may as well, right? I've still got an hour before they close.
