Default Fam

Does any one know if FAM (fertility awareness method) can be an effective contraceptive for those with unreliable cycles due to PCOS?

Even though I know that it is unlikely that I will ever become pregnant, I don't want to take any chances, but I also do not want to use either bcps or herbal bc.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

I dont' think this would be a good method. This is like the rhythm method, right? Where you look at when you have your periods so you can abstain on your most fertile days? It's not really a good enough birth control to begin with, much less when your cycle is so unpredictable.

There are plenty of birth control options that aren't BCP or herbal things (I've never heard of herbal birth control anyway?). Have you thought about condoms, a diaphragm, an IUD, spermacide, the sponge, female condom, the ring, etc?

hey, we use this method combined with condoms when we are close to fertile days, and it has been working fine so far. I do my temperature everyday and my period is quite regular, I can tell when I'm ovulation. I just went to the cardiologist (cos I have a heart condition too, ) and she said its a great method used correctly so good luck!
